Konica Minolta DiMage Z5

My 3 year old DiMage Z5 has taken brilliant photos and wonderful video up to this point. Recently, I have seen a dark smudge in the upper right corner of the viewfinder which diminishes as I zoom in. This smudge translates to the photo. Can you give me an idea of what might be the problem, how to resolve it or where I can send the camera for repair if necessary? Thank!

is thre a virus going around. Worked fine yesterday. today no light is reaching the eyepiece or screen. New batteries, if I take a picture it is DARK. and a direct shot to a light is just a glow of light.

the right side of my screen shows a black curve. also as the camera turns on, it moves the screen back and forth (left and right) and clicks.

I have owned this camera for 3 years, great camera. Until recently when in the upper right hand corner a blackened area appears and also prints on the photos. I believe it is the shutter not opening fully. When you turn on the camera you hear a click when the shutter opens. Any ideas?

Hi, I have the same black area in the corner of my shot, and 'fluttering' on turning the camera on. Have called Jessops and a local independent camera shop. Both have told me that Minolta have been bought by Sony, and as such, there is no support for the Minolta cameras, which is very poor. Also, the price of cameras has come down so much over the last few years, that it is cheaper to buy a replacement than to attempt to have it repaired. A Fuji Finepix S5700 was suggested by my independant shop...does a similar job to the Dimage and costs £99. I was quoted £125 to have the Dimage looked at by Jessops! It's a no-brainer for me, although very annoying as I love my Dimage.
Hope this helps a little.

The odds are you have a broken spring in the anti-shake assembly which has allowed the lens unit to shift to one side. The smudge you are seeing is the edge of the lens housing and will have a slight rounded shape. As you zoom in, you are extending the lens past this area so it no longer shows.

I bought a used Konica Minolta DiMage A2 online. Is it normal for the image to change from color to black and white, then back to color, repeatedly, in the viewfinder and screen when preparing to make a...

When it goes to black&white the lightconditions are probably too dark. It has a better range in black&white so it switches. (but if I remember correctly this only happens when you're in video-modus 'cause in photo-modus the flash will pop up)

What size memory card are you using? I have had this problem trying to use a a 4gb card, which apparently is not compatible with the Z5. Using a 2gb card seems to alleviate the problem.

The battery cover is a different issue. But the wavy lines in your photos sounds like a defective Sony CCD issue. If so, Sony will fix your Minolta camera for free (with free shipping) regardless of warranty. See this link:

I disagree it is a CCD problem. Turn the camera on and observe the diaphram in the lens to see if it opens. If it opens you should see the CCD under a strong light. If not then the problem is with the shutter that allows live view. This model and also Minolta E500 and Vivitar all use the same chassis and all have this shutter problem. I still haven't figured out how to fix it though.
