Any disk can be formatted if you have the appropriate software. The SanDisk Cruzer Micro comes with a security software that the owner can enable. If it is enabled, you cannot open it under Windows unless you enter the correct password . Also, if the security is enabled, you cannot even open it under Linux or Mac OS. An if you cannot open it you cannot format it. I do not know if that answers your question or if that is the real reason you cannot format it. That is one possibility.
1. right click on my computer then manage
2. click on disk management then right click on the drive which you want to format then click format it will forcely format your card.
If you pull out the flash disk while it's working, you can damage its bootrecord. In this case Windows tells you that flash drive is not formatted because cannot read the from master boot record or FAT (file allocation table)
You can scan your flash drive attempting to repair boot record or use a flashdisk recovery tool if you have importanta data in it.
If not you can format your flash drive.
copy the files to you're pc, and if you use windows just go in my computer and right click on the flash disk icon and click format check the quick format box and the press format.
Go to the properties of the 4 GB drive and see what it reports. If it shows that it is full when it is not suppose to be. I would copy whatever you need off of it and format it.
To format it:
Right click on the 4 GB drive in My Computer and select format. Thais is if you are using windows. If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it. Thanks, Joe
(WARNING: After running this low level format tool, the whole USB flash disk surface will be fully erased. Therefore, data restoration will be impossible after using this utility!)
