Once you start up the system and you see the Dell logo start tapping F12 and select the boot to the Utilitiy Partition or Diagnostics. run the express test on the system. It will do a quick hardware test on your system. if an error 1000:0141 or 2000:0141 means the system cannot see the hdd. if you get error 142 or 146 at the end of the error it means bad hdd.. you might have a bad hdd. If the express test passes fine. then reinstall OS.

If the hard drive doesn't detect in multiple systems that if generally accepted as an indication of drive failure (Especially if another drive is seen in both systems) Fortunately, replacement drives are pretty cheap

What is the problem when uyou switch on the IBM

You probably need to replace the BIOS battery. This battery is small and on the inside of the laptop connected to the motherboard. It stores the BIOS settings, date and time. If this battery becomes worn out then it will cause your issue. First try and press F1. Navigate to the last tab and select to restore defaults, then save and exit. If the computer boots up fine but the next time you use it the same message appears then you need a new BIOS battery. Alternatively your HDD may be damaged if it cannot find a boot device. Check your HDD is recognised on the boot menu by pressing F12, select it and press enter and your OS should boot. Hope this helps,

Windows XP won't see C drive after formatting and erasing vista on Toshiba Satellite P200-AB1 laptop

I had a Toshy A25, not with that issue, but I did erase Malware infected Vista from an Acer Aspire. The system is locked to boot from the HDD, so it needs an OS, I formatted an easy swappable Windows 98 OS onto the HDD. I was told Linux will work too. Get the BIOS settings to allow boot from the system's own CD/DVD drive! That is key to new installs, and getting the drivers loaded like they should
