Question about SanDisk Sansa e260 MP3 Player

2 Answers

My Sansa e260 won't turn on and feels hot to the touch, it was only turned on for a couple hours. I let it cool down and when that didn't help I tried to charge it and it still won't turn on. I bought it through Amazon.com without a warranty 2 months ago. Help!

In case anyone else has this problem, I'll add that I spoke to Sandisk and it's fried. Toast. End of story.

So what did SanDisk do to remediate the problem? I just bought my player yesterday and turned it on for the first time this morning. Now it won't turn back on and is warm as you described.

Sandisk took me through the steps to reset it, including holding down the power button for 20 seconds. When that didn't work, they offered a replacement-new, not refurbished.

There is a trick to charging the battery in these small mp3 players. It wont charge if it is turned on, and it won't charges if it's turned off. Here what to do...
1. plug the payer into your USB port. or wall charger
2. switch thje palyer on using the mechanical switch (on the side)
3. turn it off by either holding down the play button, or selecting "System" from the menu
4. The screen will go black and the battery will begin charging.

HI,
Try these steps:

STEP 1 - Reset the device

Windows Media Player won;t sync music!

Turn off the automatic sync option - change it to manual sync, and then you should be good to go. Change to manual sync first, and then reformat.

Sansa e260 freezes up

It's not suppose to say Refresh Database when you connect it to the computer, it's only suppose to say that when you eject it OUT of your computer.

Did you load a massive amount of files during your last sync?

I don't think there's any need in resetting it if it is able to turn off and on. What I recommend doing is formatting it. Remember, formatting the player will cause you to loose ALL your media stored in the device. To format go to "My Computer" > "Sansa e260" right click and go down to format.

If it formats, then good. Turn it on and it should say "Refresh Database". Change the mode of your player to MTP(?) so that it will no longer refresh the database after transferring media(?).

Connect it back to your computer and reload your media onto it that was wiped out during the format. Now disconnect it and see if it works... It should.

If that doesn't work this should do the job for you: http://sandisk.com/Retail/Default.aspx?C...

Always remember to update the firmware on your products, it is a wise idea to do so. (: http://sandisk.com/Retail/Default.aspx?C... < Get updates with that.

Drain the battery if whatever you do don't work. Sometimes removing the battery for a few seconds on putting it back in works.

If you think you attacked this problem from every angle and still no luck. Contact sandisk: support@sandisk.com Give them some time, their swamped with emails at the moment.

Sansa e260 problem

It might just need to be reformatted. If you don't care about deleting and redownloading everything with songs and videos and pictures, too, then reformat it. Just plug the mp3 player into your computer and right click on the icon in the MY COMPUTER window, and click on FORMAT. It should come to a new window and click on start format. If this doesn't work, then call me to help you any further. Ask for Maxwell at 1-(239)-945-0583.

Sansa e260 says connected but device not recognized

I agree with the above suggestion. Try setting the USB Mode under "Settings" on "MSC" on the Sansa. My computer would not recognize the e260 when the mode was set to "MTP"; works fine on "MSC".
