Dell 1710n printer problem...

The toner low light & error light will not go out on Dell 1710n printer. The toner has been replaced and there is no existing paper jam!?

The "error !" light just started coming on. We have no paper jam and the ink cartridge in the machine is only a few weeks old. We have tried turning it off and on and unplugged the machine for a few minutes but it always resets with the "error !" light on.

Exactly the same problem !!. Changed toner cartridge same problem. Cannot reset opc counter. Tried going into settings and resetting factory default. Problem still persists.

I had the same problem - when I put the old cartridge back in the error light went out and the printer started running again. The toner light is still on. I was trying to replace it with an off brand cartridge - I would suggest only using only a Dell cartridge!

Same for me too. Replaced the toner and reset the drum counter, but the toner light and error light stay on.

Try resetting the error lights with a drum reset. With the power on and cartridge door open, press and hold the Cancel button until all lights flash in sequence. Release the button and close the door.

One off brand I've found that works is IPW... or any brand with a "green" handle. Not blue... the only blue handle I've found to work is an actual Dell toner cartridge.

One thing I just found that works. On the underside of the toner that works is a colored chip... this is the cause of the error. The chip is only glued/rubber cemented on the toner, it is not connected to the cartridge in any other fashion (ie, wires). Take the chip off the toner that works and the new toner you rec'd that doesn't work (generates and error), switch the chips with the toners and bingo, you're back in business. Make sure you get a good stick with the chip to the new cartridge (do NOT super glue, you may need it in the future and you don't want to snap the chip... rubber cement if needed) just get it to stick so it doesn't fall off.

Thank-you this worked for me. I changed the chip. Luckily the glue on the chip was still sticky enough to fasten without adding anything. I'm very glad I did not recycle my old cartridge like I was going to!

I did have this problem with when replacing a Dell toner with another Dell toner, was strange but was able to put in a refurb toner and did the reseting cycle and that did fix it.

I had this same problem and I worked with the printer forever and tried everything. Finally, I put the old cartridge back in and it fixed the problem - I would make sure to use a Dell cartridge in the printer and not an off brand or refurbished.

Here is a link to your printers manual. It has troubleshooting in it and explains what the error means when you see the picture of the sun with the ink drop & exclamation point blinking. It also has instructions on how to fix the error and stop the blinking.

My dell 1710 printer prints very light but the low toner light isnt on.

Check your print settings by properties. The setting might me on toner save mode so it will print 50% liter or which ever one someone press. It could of been my mistake but it must be toner save mode is on.
Good luck!!
Please rate me good

You have to reset the drum count on the printer after you replace the drum. Call dell tech support they will not charge you for help resetting the drum even if you are not in warrenty.

There is no setting on the 1710 printer to clear the error of a non Dell branded toner being inserted. Some higher end Dell printers do have a setting for Non-Dell branded toner. Not all Dell printers have this setting. Resetting the drum count will have no effect on a non dell branded toner error.

Dell 1720dn Error and Toner light on

After replacing the drum unit you have to tell the printer that you've done it(it's not smart enough to figure it out itself). Have the front door open and press and hold the Cancel button on the printer until all lights flash in sequence then let go. Then close door and try.

The solution I used and the one I suggest is to switch to another brand and NEVER buy another Dell product. Until recently, everything in my office was Dell. Eventually everything will be other than Dell. Their support is terrible and I think the quality of their products has deteriorated over the years.

You need to replace the drum and toner to correct the issue. That's the sign of the drum at its end of life.
