When I switch my dell computer on I get a blank screen on the monitor which immediately goes into power save mode and shuts down. If I switch it back on I can get to the point where the dell self test logo comes up on the monitor but nothing else. I have tried switch cables etc but this has not worked. I know the monitor works as I can get it to work with my laptop

Fist open cpu cabinet cover then pull cmos cell from motherboard for 10 minutes then put it back then all settings goes defaults. The when you power up the computer press F8 key 5 to 6 times then you can see safe mode and other menu enter in enable vga mode then go to display property and change screen resolution to 1024*768 then apply also press windows key +R key so you can see run type in run "chkdsk /r" then press enter then press "y" then restart then it will fix and recover error of windows and harddrive. If you are not able to enter in enable vga mode then try to enter in "safe mode" then run "chkdsk /r" command with above method then if still same then need to repair windows with windows disk.Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.
Dell monitors automatically go into power-save mode after a preset
amount of time when the computer is inactive. The Dell monitor will go
completely black, instead of showing a screensaver. This doesn't mean
that your Dell computer
has shut down. Instead, this allows your monitor to essentially turn
off until it's needed again. You can change how long it is before the
Dell monitor goes into power-save mode by changing your display

power-save mode. Alternately, you can press the power button on your
