Question about Fisher Paykel EcoSmart GWL15

1 Answer

GWL15 model sometimes leaves black marks on clothes

This usually only happens every other month or so. The last time I had washed flannel sheets, then a mattress cover, then some velour items. The velour items had black all over them. I have checked with the store, the 24 hour hotline, the factory and get a different answer every time. I have been using Gain HE liquid detergent, no fabric softner and only about a 1/2 inch of detergent in the cap (per their instruction). Then a month or so later, it will happen again! Have ruined several items because of this!

How to clean a mattress

On daily basis humans shed skin cells. Along with these skin cells we also shed millions of bacteria. These bacteria can easily infiltrate your sheets and mattress cover making it vital that you have a regular mattress cleaning routine/schedule. Many mattresses come with tags that indicate what types of cleaning products are best suited for that particular mattress. If your mattress indicates that it is ok, try using natural, organic cleansers. Here are a few basic cleaning tips that should help keep your mattress in great condition:

When it comes time to flip your mattress (every 6-8 weeks) take some time to vacuum both sides

Accidents happen. Children/pets may leave an unwanted stain on your mattress. They can be removed by first blotting excess wetness from the area, followed by lightly spraying the region with an enzymatic cleanser, then blotting the area once more. I recommend following this up with some baking soda - sprinkle some on the affected area to help eliminate persistent odors and to absorb residual moisture

Wash your sheets, blankets and pillows regularly

Use a dust mite cover to protect your mattress

How to care for your mattress

Although mattresses come with a warranty, this does not mean that you should not care for it properly. The following is a list of ways in which you can further the life of your mattress and keep it in great condition.

Ensure proper installation

Make sure to let your mattress breathe - when you take a vacation, do not leave sheets on your bed; try stripping the bed twice a week and leaving it without sheets until the time you are going to bed

Do not jump on the bed - keep children from jumping on your mattress

Keep your bed from sagging by using a supportive bed frame

Use a mattress pad to absorb moisture/perspiration that can be easily removed and washed

To help minimize wear and maximize comfort make sure to rotate your mattress every two weeks during the first three months after purchase and every two months after that

Here is a great guide on how to properly rotate you mattress:

Electric blanket stopped working

Its an electric blanket. All electric blankets are made cheaply and many do not adhere to even the most basic electrical standards. No one with any sense will touch it or try to repair it. It might make a good lap warmer if you take off the plug and seal the hole. Now go and buy a really good new one- (not at one of those mega stores where folks take humorous cellphone snapshots of the shoppers who enter the places and then put them on a Facebook post like "...market shoppers". I've gone British and bought nice comforters and put on English flannel sheets and pillow cases. (Once you go flannel, even for summer, you'll never go back. and flannel wears like iron). Happy snuggling.

How often should I wash my waterbed?

It is advised to clean your waterbed mattress every month. You'll need to wash it more often if the sheets become dump or soiled. It is also advised to disinfect the mattress in order to give your bed a fresh scent.

Dont know how to remove the bedding from the bassinet to wash

Which part of the bedding is soiled and needs to be washed?

There should be a flat sheet that covers the mattress pad, an optional top sheet, a comforter, a dust ruffle, pillow sham and a decorative cover for the hooded area.

Remove the comforter & top sheet & set them aside. Pick up the mattress inside the bassinet, remove the flat sheet on it and put that with the other items to wash. Leave the mattress pad out, and you should be able to see the dust ruffle. The dust ruffle goes under the mattress pad and hangs like a skirt on the bottom of the bassinet. Pick up the dust ruffle and untie any ribbons that might be used to anchor it on the sides or bottom area. Depending on the bedding set you bought or are using with the bassinett, the piece that goes around the hood area might have elastic to keep it snug, or if you are using the default that came the model that is sold in California, US - its not really removeable without a lot of trouble and other problems - (I would suggest leaving it on unless its REALLY soiled).

Good luck!

LG Washing machine leaks from the bottom when large items such as flannel sheets are placed in the machine. It does not leak at any other time but I had water all over the floor twice when I tried to wash...

Water may be working its way up and over the inner wash tub with the larger items. Ensure that you are not overloadinig the washer. You may want to contact an appliance service company.
