No, I have not discovered a solution. But, I should not have to pay for something that should be explained in the instructions. I will just leave the unwanted channels on the remote until someone can tell me how to do it without charging me. I can understand charging for a very technical problem, but this should be simple. I have done it on many other remotes, but I can't seem to find the correct button to erase a channel.
I am disappointed in Radio Shack for not explaining how to solve this problem.
Steve from Magnasonic 800 663 5854 solved the problem. It must have been finger problems - somehow someone programmed the remote unintentionally. Steve had me turn on the TV and press 02 | RESET | AUTO -- the tv cycled through all the channels -- and that cured the problem.
I was able to get back to using the TV after several frustrating tries at finding the right combination of searches and pressing buttons. The function I was able access was not a function I could get to with the remote suppilied with the TV. And once stuck in this mode nothing would clear it Turns out that the power button gave me channel 8 and the #1 button gave me this display calibration? function. Obviously not using the right code. Never the less all is well with the TV and I got my VCR working with the $2.99 remote and I will attempt the other units TV and Magnasonic DVD later when I have regained my composure.
Does anyone have an answer to this problem or do I just throw the tv and remote in the garbage, really annoying trying to watch the tv with the big number on the screen and cannot get it off using the universal remote, old remote used to take it off the screen but its now broke, thinging the new one would do it, but no.
I'm not sure what type of TV you are using,, but most all Large Screens have a reset button someplace. You should be able to reset the TV and fix the problem. Its not the remote, making the image appear, but a command from it was misinterpeted. Sometimes turning the set off will work, but most often it needs to be reset.
EXCEPTION... if you are using a cable box. Disconnect it from power, wait 1 minute and then see if the problem exists. If the cable box is on even with the DVD you may still have this issue. Please reset the cable, and if that doesn't work, reset the TV.
