I HAVE A SONY VAIO LAOTOP VGN-N31S DO NOT START UP. LED LIGHTS ARE ON. SCREEN IS DARK. CAN ANYONE HELP
I run a ltd company where I work business to business only. It is highly likely that in wasington_e's case the machine needs reflowing which is where due to bad cooling design your the solder balls conecting your gpu (graphics processor unit) to the motherboard have broken contact. reflowing the board heats this chip up to wet the solder and re-establish the connection. Its very common and after HP's sony are next in line for being guilty of selling millions of units with this fault. Find a repair shop and make sure they offer a on site reballing service before you take it in. If the shop dont have it onsite they will build the cost of sending it off into your bill and you wont even know it. Im in the uk and here you can get a reball for as little as 80 pounds and as this board costs 180 pounds its well worth doing. Hope this helps anyone reading this post.
