Make sure you hold the throttle bar firmly against the handle. If that doesn't work the cable from the throttle to the engine may need adjusting. The only other cause would be a damaged crank shaft.

Most that I have seen do not have an internal breaker. What brand and model do you have? If he used to small of a cord (which is common) then it may have shorted out the armature. I see this happen with power tools quite often.

When yanking on the pull cord to start engine

Im guessing that you have started it before, so I guess , check that its not flooding ,pull air filter out see If you can see heaps of fuel in the bottom hole ,if you do take spark plug out pull cord a few times without holding start cable or you will catch on fire replace spark plug try starting ,no start still flooding take it to a lawn mower place ,float may have a hole in it , if not flooding, on the bottom of the cardy one brass nut , four holes find them clear then, start also a brass pipe going into the center of the carby is probable blocked

Mower won't start, pull cord now locked up

when you say it's full of oil you don't mean it's all the way to the top of the dipstick. because if that is the caes you will have to drain most of the oil out until the oil o nly goes to the full mark on the dipstick.that would explain why you can't pull on the starter rope there is no where for the internal parts to move to it's being blocked by all the oil...good luck

Won't start

the blades may be locked. remove the spark plug cap so the mower won't start unexpectedly. tilt the mower on its side, air filter facing upwards. work the blades until they loosen and turn freely.

Starter cord only pulls 1 foot

Most push mowers have 3 bolts on the side of recoil shroud. One in front, (where plug is) and two on side.
