I bought a replacement remote from ebay which controls video, changes channels, turns cc on and off etc...everything except turning the SAP off which is stuck on but I use my dvd player/vcr unit and change the channels thru it with no issues

Good day.

With regards to the brigthness issue, you can adjust the brightness control of the your unit through the Screen control located along the flyback of your TV.

The problem is a vertical deflection issue, it means the picture from top to bottom has collapsed. The set will require two or three capacitors and an ic and it is quite fixable.
