Question about HP 5510 4-in-one Printer

1 Answer

Error when trying to scan a document from the HP Image Gallery

When I press the scan button on my HP5510 AIO it says "no scan options. you need to install or run HP software for feature...". Then when I open HP Image Gallery (which is how I have always been able to scan in the past when I get this message), it says "An error occurred communicating with the scanning device. Please ensure that the sanning device is connected properly and try again.'. My AIO prints, faxes, and copies just fine. I have it hooked up to a Dell Latitude D800 laptop running XP Professional. I did just recently hook this printer up to this computer and I dont' think I have scanned from it before. Is there some setup or driver I need? THis isn't a new printer, it was in my husbands office and is identical to the printer I had before, just my old one the flap that goes over the area where you change the cartridges has broken and has to be taped to stay in place so I figured I'd change.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks. I went to HP.com and did the software update check and it said I had the latest software/drivers. It is odd becuase my other printer is the exact same model and I had no problem scanning on that one. I will try their troubleshooting wizard...

My HP 5510 4-in-1 used to scan but not anymore. It still performs the other functions. It is irritating because I use the scanner the least and it should not be "wearing out" so soon !

Is there a built-in function that will self-destruct the scanning mechanism to force costumers to buy a newer model?

    Please solve this troublesome problem.

I too went to the HP website and it said that I had the correct drivers installed. The printer still states "NO scan options", when I go to RUN the driver isn't even located in there as an option. NOW, it's not even loaded onto my computer!! I'm SO LOST

Yes, it sounds as if you will need to install the drivers for this printer just to be sure all have been installed. I would double check your connection with another pc if possible, maybe there is some incompatibility issue as well. If this is an old pc, there could be a chance the driver's are not out there so i will look for you as well.. let me know if you were able to reinstall the driver's? i wouldn't uninstall anything until you know you have the copy of the disc you will need.. if not, goto hp.com and search for your printer's drivers.. good luck..d

just following up... did you have a chance to reinstall the driver's? is this solved yet, let me know.. sometimes just uninstalling the software that the printer came with if you still have it.. if not, then i would go to their site first and download those drivers and save it in your documents.. once that is done, then uninstall the software from your start menu to control panel to add/remove programs option.. reboot after that, then extract those driver files you saved in your documents, then connect printer and that should do it..

i hope this helps you.. let me know, thanks..d

L want to scan a document with hp office jet 4355 how do l get scaning option from my computor

1.Turn on your computer and wait for it to boot up, then turn on your printer.
2.Locate the " HP Image Director " icon on your computer and double click it.
( This icon was placed there when your printer was installed on your computer )
3. A screen will appear showing the scanning options available on your printer.
4. Place your document or picture on the printer's glass top.
5. From the HP Director screen, click on the appropriate button to start the scanning operation.
The scanner will perform two passes, the first; is to preview your document or picture and to
make changes, if necessary, the second; is the final acceptance of the document or picture
and save it on your computer.
All scanned pictures can be viewed in the HP Photo Gallery and the My Pictures folder
Documents can be viewed in the My Documents folder.
I hope your scanning goes well.

How do I scan a picture and email it?

Hi

You can start a scan from your computer or from your HP OfficeJet.
to scan an original from your Windows computer
1 Load your original either on the glass or in the automatic document feeder
(ADF).
2 Press Start Scan.
A scan of the original appears in the HP Preview window.
3 In the HP Preview, you can edit the scanned image. When you have
finished, click Accept.

For more information about making changes to an image during the
preview, see adjust an image during the preview in scan pictures and
documents in the HP Photo & Imaging Help for more information.
The HP OfficeJet does a final scan of the original and sends the image to
the HP Photo & Imaging Gallery.

I get an error message when I scan. It says Error

ISSUE: The error Waiting for PC is displayed on the control panel when scanning, using the Start Scanbutton on the control panel. The user will also notice a Not Setup on PC error when pressing theScan to … button. Note that scan from the PC works properly without an error. SOLUTION: The probable causes for this issue are listed below:
  • Firewall denying access to PC
  • Device polling not enabled
  • The scan to function is not enabled in the HP Toolbox
  • The destination has not been added to the Scan to button from HP toolbox
  • The HP Toolbox is losing the scan to destination
How to troubleshoot this issue:
  1. PC protection software such as firewall software may prohibit proper communication between HP AiO products and Toolbox and scanning software. Firewalls may need to be reconfigured to allow Toolbox to communicate with the AiO. The Toolbox software is similar to Microsoft Outlook and Internet Explorer in this way. Temporarily disabling firewall software may be helpful in determining if it needs to be reconfigured for Toolbox to operate properly. Please contact your third party firewall software vendor if assistance is needed to reconfigure the firewall. The following third party support Web sites may be useful:
  2. When Device Polling is turned off, the Alerts and the Scan to e-mail or folder options in the HP Toolbox are disabled, and the START SCAN function on the HP LaserJet AiO product control panel is also turned off. CLICK HERE for instructions on how to turn on Device polling.
  3. To program the device SCAN TO ... button, view the device settings. Open the HP Toolbox and click the Scan to tab. For more information, CLICK HERE to view the document titled HP Color LaserJet 2840 AiO Series Products - How to use "Scan To E-mail" or "Scan to Folder" from the Device
  4. The User loses the folder when choosing to save scanned files under the Scan to Folderoption of the Scan to Tab. The User also may lose the email settings under the Scan to Emailoption of the Scan to Tab. The User restarts the toolbox and it works for some time and the problem repeats again. Perform the following in the order listed to resolve this issue:
    1. Run the Fix Scan Utility and see if it resolves the problem. Click here for the Fix Scan Utility at http://www.hp.com If not, proceed to the next step.
    2. Check the firmware version and make sure that it is up to date. print a configuration page to see what the current firmware version is. Compare it to the latest version offered on HP.com Click here for HP.com at http://www.hp.com . If it is not the latest version then upgrade it to the latest version available on the web.
    3. Download the Software Update Version 3.0 from HP.com and install it. Click here to download the software update from http://www.hp.com
  5. For Toolbox Reset Persistent Data issues, CLICK HERE to view the document titled HP Color LaserJet 2800 All-in-One series - Toolbox Reset Persistent Data
  6. If the issue persists, uninstall and reinstall the printer software. CLICK HERE to view the document titled HP LaserJet 2820 and 2840 AiO Series Products - Uninstalling or Removing the Printing Software and Shared Components

Unable to input a destination for the Button Settings Tab

Even if the printer installs OK, the scanner is not allways recognized. Try to look for new hardware>scanners in Control Panel. It migth want the HP CD or the driver from www.HP,com. Or find a picture editing program and File>Import>HP officejet Pro L 7590 AIO- twain! That works!

I need to scan a document to a Word File and send to a customer. I am pressing the Scan button, but nothing is happening. I have just downloaded all of the latest drivers, but, it still will not work. What...

Try it differently.

Go to word, open a new file and then do an Import from the scanner or "Insert" a picture and point at the AIO for Word to get the image.
