I cannot get the 8 GB samsung flash pen drive to be recognised when I put it into any USB 2.0 port.
I use the ports with digital camera, webcam, printer etc and they work fine.It doesn't automatically install.
Exactly the same prob with 8GB Samsung pen drive. I think I caused the problem: was having problems copying file folders larger than 70mb at one time (in a powered USB port). So I reformatted with OS X. Worked a little better but when it was plugged into a PC to transfer files.... BOOOM! Won't show up on any computer any port. For your problem make sure you plug into a USB port ON THE COMPUTER, not a keyboard or USB hub, etc. If on PC, go to Device Manager in Control Panels and see if it shows up there. There's also a HDD Low Level Formating utility you can download for free. Just type the utility's name into Google and you should be there! Exactly the same prob with 8GB Samsung pen drive. Right-click on COMPUTER. Select PROPERTIES, Go to DEVICE MANAGER. Under UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS CONTROLLERS, check all the USB ports to see if they are working properly. If the USB PORT in which you have inserted your pen-drive, is showing an error, right-click over it and select PROPERTIES and make a TROUBLESHOOT.
If this troubleshooting doesn't help you, use another computer to check if your Pen-drive is working there. If the problem persists, go to the manufacturer's service center and ask for a replacement or repair.

There are two most common causes of Pen Drive not working
1) The usb port You are connecting it has not enough power output to operate the pendrive (many older computers and laptops have this issue) solution buy an powered USB HUB one with a power adapter You put in a wall socket and then connect Your Pen Drive thruu this hub
2) Operating system lacks drivers for Your particular Pen (windows up to Millenium lack proper usb support and newer I mean XP Vista? (Not sure bout this last one) need administrative privileges to recognise some Pen Drive for the first time or even a driver diskette (some very rare cases).
your pen drive is not recognize by the usb port onyour computer, remove the pen drive from the port and insert it to another usb port on your computer, if you still having problems, restart the computer and try again on a different port.
