Question about Sewing Machines

6 Answers

Elna 7200 Help! I live in Kenya with my Elna 7200, but there are no service people for it in this country. My LCD window read, "E1 Error". My manual says to turn the machine off for 5 seconds and turn it on again. When I do this the LCD reads the same. Short of getting the machine off the continent to a repairman is there anything else I can do? Thanks so much for your help.

I called and it seems that a main board must be replaced. My sewing machine is looking for a ride to either Europe or South Africa. I wish I could afford to go along!

There should be something displayed on top of e1 error, can you read it? Here is user manual. Check pag 88. The thing displayed on top of e1 error should help us in troubleshooting your problem.

If your machine starts up there may be an easier solution than replacing motherboard. Unfortunately I do not have enough information from you to fix it.

    regards

Calling a repair service that is that far far away isnt very practical at all. is there any repairshops near you? if the service people say that the problem is in the mainboard, im sure that it just needs something there to be replaced and not the whole board itself.

Can the mainboard be purchased on eBay or possibly at another website? I use eBay for cell phone and notebook parts all the time. It would be worth a look. Then all that would be needed is a little work to replace it and you should be good to go! Good Luck!

Wow, what a dilemma!

If restarting the machine as per the manual's instructions does not clear the error, then it is probably indicating an internal problem that does need to be repaired.

To make sure, I would unplug the foot control, power off the machine, unplug the machine itself, and wait for longer (an hour or so). Then plug in the machine and turn it on with the foot control still disconnected.

If the error is in the computer, this would clear it. If it is an internal problem, then the error can only be cleared by repair.

Perhaps the Amani Ya Juu Project in Nairobi would be able to help you locate a repair facility that is less than one continent away?

I'm glad it will get fixed, though I'm sorry it wasn't a do-it-yourself job. It would be great if the machine could bring a camera and show you pictures when it gets back of all the places it went without you!

Hiya Patty!

If possible, I would recommend giving Elna a call at +41 22 884 86 66 and seeing if their tech support can walk you through any checks with the machine. I took a look at the manual and see the solution you reference, and it certainly isn't much help is it? Does your LCD only display E1 error, or are there other details displayed?

Good luck!

What is the largest size of lettering and how do we space between words

The built-in character size is usually restricted to the same width as the widest zig-zag your machine will make--most machines are 5mm or 9mm.

Spaces are usually made by programming some straight stitches between words (begins around page 73 of the manual).

Where can i find a manual for my Elna sewing machine

You could try searching this website; you may need to see if there is a model number on the side ID plate on your machine first.
http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/elna-sewing-machine-instruction-manuals.aspx#p

Failing that, I would suggest you contact your Elna headoffice; start at www.elna.com, go to your country, then the "contact us" page to find the head office details. They should be able to tell if if the manual is available and how much.
