KEYBOARD HOT KEY ISSUES SCREEN CHANGING VIDEO SETTINGS..??? HELP

AFTER 2 YEARS ALL OF A SUDDEN MY WIFE HAS HAD THIS TROUBLE.
I NOTICED LIGHT UNDER F10 LIGHT AND I FIGURED OUT THE "FN" BUTTON AND TURNED THE LIGHT OFF THEN THE LIGHT UNDER F11 STARTED FLASHING AND IS INTERMITNET NOW. THE PROBLEM IS THE SPACE BAR AND IT CHANGES VIDEO SETTINGS AND MOST OF THE KEYBOARD IS NOT FUNTIONING CORRECTLY.

IS THIS A MACRO SETTING? OR WHAT COULD IT BE I AM USEING A USB KEYBOARD NOW. I AM NOT AN I.T. GUY AND CAN'T SEEM TO CORRECT THE KEYBOARD I DO NOT THINK IT IS KEYBOARD FAILURE RATHER THAN A SETTING THAT HAS GONE ASTRAY.
PLEASE HELP
THANK
SCOTT

    this is my first laptop.

are keyboard failures common as it might be with desktops and cheap keyboards?

do i fix my laptop keyboard or does it just become a desktop unit now with seperate keyboard and mouse?

should i anticipate if the keyboard failed that i would have other failures in this unit a should prepare for that.

    thank s

i have just read something in the user manual pdf on page 159 and on called "fn-esse" keyboarding it looks to me if you like to type like texting it turns your keyboard in to special mode. when i get home i will try to read farter and turn it off. right now i can't type most keys and those f10 f11 lights would flash and the space bar keeps blacking out the screen while switching the video setting. i think my wife just turned something on that i ca't seem to turn off.

Does this happen in safe-mode too (Assuming you are windows user here)

  • Biju Thomas Oct 16, 2013

Tap F8, when the system is starting up... Will get to a menu choice that will have 'safe mode', chose that... the screen / colors will look lower resolution, but all applications should work. Let me know how it goes, before we sort the issue... If you face the issue in safe-mode, its beyond the OS (mostly)

The exact procedures vary by system, but there are a few common methods that may work if the motherboard manual is not available for guidance. The general procedure is the same for any modern computer system, but the menu arrangement and keystrokes to enter the setup program can vary greatly from one machine to the next. Power on or restart the computer and watch the initial boot screen to find the keystroke required to enter BIOS setup. This is often shown at the bottom of the screen. Alternatively, use the arrow keys or the plus key to change the current selection from "Disabled" to "Enabled" in order to enable the USB port. Save the settings and exit by pressing "F10" or using the "Esc" key to back out of the current menu. Choose to save and exit from the main menu if needed. Follow any additional instructions on the screen to save or navigate the menus. Hope this helps.

How do you turn the screen where it will be lighter

Laptops usually do not have dial buttons like normal monitors where you can manually change the brightness with a flick of a switch. However, to replace this, brightness control is usually put onto the keyboard. Try this:

1. Look at your keyboard and look for keys that look like they are marked to perform brightness/contrast control. These are usually symbols written in the F9, F10 and F11 keys but may vary for different manufacturers

2. These keys are usually accessed using another key (the Fn Key). Therefore, while pressing the Fn Key, click on the F9/F10/F11 buttons to play with the brightness control settings

When my wife logs in her account, the keyboard does not work for her, however it works perfectly for me. I was sure she had changed some settings somewhere, but I could not figure it out. Second question;...

Has the keyboard been deactivated on your wife's account.
Go into control pane and check.

All keyboards have 3 lights above the number pad on the right hand side.
Middle light is for Caps Lock.
On laptops the light might be on the Caps Lock key itself.
Sometimes when you press the key, check the bottom right hand side of your screen and it may tell you that Cap Lock is On/Off
