I have the exact same thing happening with my Canon ImageClass D860 copier, but I don't have a piece of small glass like I have seen mentioned in many "solutions". Any other suggestions?

    Thanks in advance!!

I have the same problem - a line when I auto feed paper and clean copy when I place it directly on the glass. I cleaned the whole glass surface then I cleaned the ADF foller at instructed in manual - still have line on paper - what did I do wrong?

Oops....not exactly the same problem I guess. I have a very fine line that appears on the left hand side of my documents if I use the document feeder. The line does not appear if I just place the item I am copying directly on the glass.

    Thanks!!

Black lines occur from a few things. You did not list the brand, model, or class of the copier. If its a PCU cartridge based system, the easiest way to tell, is to start making a copy, and as the paper gets about half way thru, shut it off, and pull out the PCU cartridge, and see if the strip is on the drum. If not. it is probably on the fuser.
    Please give more info.

If your copier has an automatic feeder and your line is present when using the feeder but not when you copy from the glass, just clean the small glass at the point where the line appears.

SOURCE: Lines

I will give you all the reasons I can think of.
1, If the line is only there when running through a document feeder and not there off the glass. The small strip of glass directly under the document feeder is dirty.
2. The drum has a scratch on it, or the cleaning blade is not cleaning the drum properly. Would require that cartridge replacement.
3. The fuser roller may be work in the middle. You would notice some reprinting , or ghost copying if that were bad.
4. Less likely would be some piece of fuzz in the light path, or a small piece of paper or tape in the paper path smearing the ink across the page.
If your machine prints, see if the line is on a print, if its on a print and not on the copy then it is scanner related.
