There is a one inch black line down middle of copies

Black lines occur from a few things. You did not list the brand, model, or class of the copier. If its a PCU cartridge based system, the easiest way to tell, is to start making a copy, and as the paper gets about half way thru, shut it off, and pull out the PCU cartridge, and see if the strip is on the drum. If not. it is probably on the fuser.
Please give more info.

If your copier has an automatic feeder and your line is present when
using the feeder but not when you copy from the glass,just clean the
small glass at the point where the line appears.
