Question about Samsung HLR5067WX 50" Rear Projection HDTV
Samsung HL 5067w. picture freezes, sound stops, screen goes black, set continues this untill power is unpluged, repluged sometimes plays OK for the rest of the day if it does not ,unplug again and again untill set operates normally . Samsung Tech says either the DMD board or complete light engin needs to be replaced. Today and other days it is 69 or 70 degrees inside the house set came on normally and has operated flawlessly for the last hours. No problems what so ever, is there a relay that is HEAT sensitive and causing the problem. Or does Samsung dlp sets have a built in fault that they are aware of but keeping from the public. The set is 24 months old and has had the on off problem for at least 6 months.
T sounds like the digital board, and not the DMD itself. Samsung knows there is a failure history with these "N" model boards. Call 1-800-SAMSUNG prompts 2, 1, 3, 1 and be very persistent. Get past the first levels. You wouldn't be the first person out of warranty to be offered a newer model for the cost of shipping. Good luck!

Base on what you have described on your post, I would say that the TV may have some cold solder joints or leaky capacitors most likely in the power supply area.
Ask Samsung if the have some sort of firmware update for this TV set and hopefully they can tell you at least that part, but I would not be sure the firmware update might fix the problem.
I would not recommend to try to get into service mode because you will need the service manual for it.
Let me know if you need more assistance.

I don't see any reason not to trust the Samsung tech on this. It *is* likely that there is a safety relay in place to prevent the damaged component from causing collateral damage, and no, Samsung wouldn't make it public, just as they don't make the service menus public.
My recommendation? If the repair will cost $1800, sell the set off for parts and get a brand new 1080p DLP set for less.
