Picture freezes sound stops screen goes black for 30 seconds recycles over and over

Samsung HL 5067w. picture freezes, sound stops, screen goes black, set continues this untill power is unpluged, repluged sometimes plays OK for the rest of the day if it does not ,unplug again and again untill set operates normally . Samsung Tech says either the DMD board or complete light engin needs to be replaced. Today and other days it is 69 or 70 degrees inside the house set came on normally and has operated flawlessly for the last hours. No problems what so ever, is there a relay that is HEAT sensitive and causing the problem. Or does Samsung dlp sets have a built in fault that they are aware of but keeping from the public. The set is 24 months old and has had the on off problem for at least 6 months.

I need an exact cure to my problem before I shell out 1800.00 to a Samsung tech.

  • DLPTV Feb 29, 2008

Now this sounds like a real plan.Today Feb. 28th the set came on as normal no problems, it was colder in the house than normal 69 --76 is the 24hour normal, this is the second time this month it has been colder and the second time no problems occurred. The set stayed on 8 hours and then froze and went blank. Cut the power to the set 3 times and back to normal operation. I just cant get passed a module working and then not working, that is why I'm looking for some sort of power relay.

  • DLPTV Feb 29, 2008

I have the faith in the tech not the parts, I'm looking for a complete fix that will last.

  • DLPTV Feb 29, 2008

I have contacted Samsung and can not get them to even give me a hint as to what the problem might be. They did tell me to cut the power to the set and then wait several minuets power up and this might solve the problem. They are partly right, so they must know what the problem is. I'm looking for a lasting fix.

Today 3/6/2008 the DMD board was replaced, Wrong guess, I spent 800.00 no results, exact same problem. Unit freezes , no sound, goes black, might restart in 30 seconds and then again might not.

  • DLPTV Mar 07, 2008

Today 3/6/2008 Samsung tech came to replace DMD I spent 800.00 no results. I ask him about "N" boards and he told me Samsung has NEVER given a letter to identify any of their boards. He did say all of the other manufactures use a letter ID system but not Samsung. I did call the 800 number but could not the higher up's with the prompts you posted. I would appreciate any names of higher up's that you happen to know of. The tech left it with we will have to farther research the problem, and it will cost more.

T sounds like the digital board, and not the DMD itself. Samsung knows there is a failure history with these "N" model boards. Call 1-800-SAMSUNG prompts 2, 1, 3, 1 and be very persistent. Get past the first levels. You wouldn't be the first person out of warranty to be offered a newer model for the cost of shipping. Good luck!

Well here it is then... your digital board is a toast and needs to be replaced... Its not the DMD board and i am sure about this...

    eagle338 Feb 29, 2008

Your digital board controls the power supply as well... Its like a control unit. From what you have said it is cutting off the power supply at will! Thats why you see these abnormal turn offs.

Base on what you have described on your post, I would say that the TV may have some cold solder joints or leaky capacitors most likely in the power supply area.
Ask Samsung if the have some sort of firmware update for this TV set and hopefully they can tell you at least that part, but I would not be sure the firmware update might fix the problem.
I would not recommend to try to get into service mode because you will need the service manual for it.
Let me know if you need more assistance.

Hiya DLPTV!

I don't see any reason not to trust the Samsung tech on this. It *is* likely that there is a safety relay in place to prevent the damaged component from causing collateral damage, and no, Samsung wouldn't make it public, just as they don't make the service menus public.

My recommendation? If the repair will cost $1800, sell the set off for parts and get a brand new 1080p DLP set for less.

Good luck!

Picture and sound turn on and off

I believe that model has a logic board in it and that is what it sounds like to me. That is just off top of my head, but I believe if you will notice the standby light it will be blinking so many blinks and stop and then blink again. If so this is a code that you can look up on the Samsung web site and plug in your model and it should tell you what just say ~ 4 blinks means. I worked on so many and it has been a while but I believe the last one I had was a Samsung and I put a logic board in it. If I can be of any further assistance please let me know.

Samsung T.V. goes on for 30 seconds then no picture

If this is a flat panel LCD tv, this is a sure sign that the panel itself is bad. I have seen this before. Tv comes on works fine then within 5 minutes goes blank.

Samsung DLP HL-R6167W - works fine for about 5 seconds then the screen freezes, sound goes out and then goes black then comes back on by itself and repeats the whole process. No blinking error lights.

There are three possible parts causing the problem. First, the Main or Digital bd is bad, Second, the DMD bd is bad. Third the Color Wheel is bad. You need a trained Samsung tech to have a look at it.
