    Jim,

I was able to get the tape out by manually lifting part of the eject mechanism. Unfortunately, I did not see any broken parts inside the vcr. Do you know of any diagrams that I might be able to refer to that might help me compare the inside of my vcr to what it should look like?

When a tape won't eject, the problem can be caused by several things. The most common problem is that the belt that operates the eject mechanism is slipping and not allowing it to eject the tape. This can be fixed by either using a re-grip solution on the belt or have the belt replaced. Belts are inexpensive but sometimes difficult to get to. Most of the repair expense will be in the labor. Unplug the unit and take the cover off. Hopefully there will be enough clearance so you can get to the tape. Try to find the motor and belt that is responsible for operating the eject mechanism. The motor will look like a shiny cylinder, about the diameter of a quarter and will have a plastic pulley attched to the shaft. You can rotate the pulley and belt with your fingers and manually eject the tape. If the tape is around the spindles and video head, you will need to manually move the mechansim that retracts the spindles and returns the tape to the cartridge. While you may be successful in getting the tape out, you need to find out what caused the problem in the first place. Putting in another tape will most like become stuck again unless the problem is identified and resolved. Also look for a broken spring or cracked gear (missing teeth) in the eject mechanism. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance Good luck! - Jim

The only diagrams available would be included in the service manual for your VCR. Here are a couple places you can purchase it from:

Does the tape load ok and its only a problem with eject?

I'd still try to find the load/eject mechanism motor & belt and try to manually give it some help (a push) when you are trying to load or eject. You might just have a bad slipping belt or motor.

As for cleaning off all mechanical parts, some of these parts have grease on them. It's there for a reason; to keep things lubricated and to keep them from binding up. I'd think twice about what I would clean off unless I had a tube of grease to replace what I cleaned off.

Clean first all the mechanical parts inside, there must be some dirt or stains, that make some parts to work in malfunction.

I have a Mitsubishi HSU48. The tape is stuck in the VCR. I cannot get it out. Do you have any suggestions

I had this problem with this specific machine. These answers have all been general to any VCR. The Mitsubishi HS-U448 has its motor underneath the machine. You don't have to remove the top cover at all. Just remove the bottom plate and spin the motor (the correct direction) to completely eject the tape.

In Mar.89 I bought a VCR Model HS-U50. Works great BUt a tape is now stuck in the cassette loading slot and while the Power button comes on and I try to eject the tape, since it wont come out or eject, the...

I took the cover off and noticed the tape was wrapped all around some wheels and unwrapped the tape from the wheels and got it out. Ate the tape up BUt at least its out. However, I tried a new tape and can now see what the problem may be. It keeps on eating the tapes, they get all scrunched up inside around various wheels and while I can get it out, each tape is mangled and beyond use. So something is causing the VCR to incorrectly wrap the tape around each aligned whlle. Dont know how to fix this , BUT since I wont be able to get parts or help on here to do it by myself, Can you be kind enough to find me a repair service outlet in Ottawa, Ontario, canada.

Error message E4 and stuck tape

Yes with care. Simply remove the cover and with care unwrap the tape. If you must break the tape - but make sure all residual tape is cleanly removed. Re assemble and put a tape head cleaner through- following the instructions.
