Player won't play CD/DVD

My Bose 321 II system failed to play any CD/DVD/VCD. It just shows "READING..." for a long time and "FORMAT UNSUPPORTED", but these discs used to work on the set. I can hear the player spinning but that's all. Feel it taking it apart to check it out.

I have the same problem.  My Bose 3-2-1 II system often will not play a DVD at all.  The system has been a disappointment and I would not recommend it to anyone.

My suggestion is to buy a different brand. I have two Bose systems and have repeatedly experienced problems with it. Considering that the Bose brand is marketed as a sophisticated system at a sophisticated price it shows a very poor performance. I am extremely frustrated as I thought that such an expensive product would give me top results.

I'm having the same issue with my Bose system. It won't play my disc and also states the format is unsupported or that it can't read the disc. When I have a disc in the player you can hear it turning even when it's not playing. This was a buy my husband HAD TO HAVE...NEVER AGAIN will I buy Bose.

Various issues can cause drives to occasionally balk at writing optical discs. These run the gamut of physical, hardware, and software troubles.

Inappropriate or dirty media may be to blame. Make sure to match the type of recordable disc to the drive, and check each disc for fingerprints or other contaminants. If a disc is dirty, wipe it with a clean, soft cloth in a straight line from the center hole outward. Try a quality optical drive cleaning disc if you suspect dust contamination on the drive’s laser lens.

Some discs don’t perform well with certain drives, even within their rated speeds. Try recording at a slower speed and then with a different brand of disc. Also, on PCs, verify that the temporary file storage area on the hard drive used by the burning software has enough free, defragmented space. Allocate at least 5GB for a DVD (9GB for a double-layer [DL] disc) and about 1GB for CD burning.

Format unsupported

Format unsupported simply means the unit can not read the disc. The problem is either the disc or the player.

Contact Bose technical support if you are sure the discs are good. 800-367-4008

maybe the DVD player you got is not supporting all DVDs from around the globe. There is this thing called NTSC region 1 for Americas, region 2 for Europe, Region 3 for Asia, Region 0 for everything. I don't know the other regions but that must have been the problem.
