Question about HP (176135-630) (176135630) Internal 48x CD-ROM Drive
I purchased my HP Pavilion a1325a computer in July 2006 and have had no problems with it, but just over a week ago I discovered the CD/DVD Disc Tray won't open??!! (aaarrgghh)
When I press the "Eject" button, it makes a whirring sound and sounds like its trying to push open, but then it fails to do so, and sounds like it pushes itself back into its original starting position.....
I'm picking the actual mechanism that opens the tray is stuck or jammed, or something similar. The tray sounds like its trying to move but the cover just won't open.
I'd apprciate 'ANY' ideas at all, I just don't want the hassle of taking my towercase into the shop and being "out of action", so to speak. >LOL<
Thanks in advance

I've had this problem with my HP drive for some time and have to use a paperclip to open it. However, I've just read Solution #4 and this works fine - just leave a CD in the tray all the time and it opens and closes as normal ! Thank you "Guest".

Problem of tray opening on hp dvd burner. I got the door open as suggested above with paperclip. Then took some CRC 2-26 plastic safe electrical grade lubricant and swabbed the pivoting door mechanism. Opened with the paperclip about 5-6 more times until it finally opens normally.

I have discovered the answer to this common problem (at least on my LVW-5006), it's to do with the little "turntable" which the disc sits on, it would have been made with a padded "ring" of felt or rubber etc. which was self adhesive and stuck onto the turntable, now if this ring comes unstuck you're just left with the adhesive which the disc and/or the weighted "press" above the disc will stick to (the latter when no disc is present). When you try to open the tray the mech tries to drop the whole laser/turntable assembly away from the disc to allow it out; but it's effectively "glued" to the upper assembly or the disc itself and that's when you hear the eject motor straining and squealing (and probably giving up!). Often a tap on the lid will free it but the best solution would be to replace the ring pad, although I suspect just removing the adhesive would work (I've noticed that cheap CD players don't even have such luxuries in the first place!) Hope this helps

I have this same problem with a HP 640b lightscribe DVD burner, I am searching for a solution but in the meantime have found a temporary solution...The drive works fine once I get it open and disc inserted, so right now I use a paper clip and manually open the drive through the pin hole slot on the front of drive (push paperclip into pin hole and drive will tray will come out as you push clip in, then you can manually pull drive tray out and insert dvd/cd), once a disc is in the tray my burner opens and closes fine, mine has a problem only when the disc tray is empty. The drive burns well even with this glitch. Will post again if I find a real resolution to issue.
Althea88, to lazy to find pswd so guest right now.
