I just rebooted my computer then went back into Pinnacle and my microphone was added to the drop down list. I tested it yesterday & it worked great.

Microphone for my YAMAHA HTR-5440

Let me make this clear to you that your Yamaha does not support Microphone but the trick is you can still do it. All you need is a stereo jack to a RCA connector cable.Check this out http://www.mediacollege.com/audio/connection/jack-stereo-rca-2.html It is easily available in the market. The stereo jack will fit into your microphone and the RCA to your Amplifier/Reciever. Plug the RCA into CD/Tape input but not in the Phono n do your thing. Let me know if this works, coz I'm really curious.

I have a Toshiba A305 with built-in Harman Kardon speakers which aren't working properly. I do get some sound but it seems to be coming from the back of the computer; & isn't as good as it was. I...

All fixed, thanks to Maanita. Problem was that I had a USB microphone (gooseneck Logitech AK5370) plugged in for my Skype calls. Not knowing anything about audio, I didn't realize the mic was interfering with my laptop speakers -- assumed turning off the mic was sufficient. Also, Maanita re-installed the sound drivers, which I wouldn't have known how to do. It sure beat calling someone at $60 an hour + expenses to come out here. What a delight to find Fixya! Thanks again!

My internal microphone doesn't work

If you are refering to the internal microphone on your computer then try this. Open up your windows sound recorder from Start - Program - Accesories - Entertainment. Hit the record button and talk or yell something if you would like. You should see recorded sound waves in the middle of your sound recorder. If you do not see the recorded waves this might mean that your microphone is turned off. To turn it on just Double click on the little speaker icon on your taskbar at the bottom right of your screen. The volume control window will open. Click on options then properties. Next check the small round recording button. Now make sure the microphone box is checked then click ok. Now a window will open that will show your microphone recording level. Move the slider up about half way and make sure to check the small "Select" box near the bottom of the slider. Open up sound recorder and try to record again. If this does not work your internal microphone may not be working or your computer may not have come with a built in microphone. There are some very cheap external mics on the market that sound very good. If you are doing any serius recording you may want to invest in a USB microphone. The USB mic should come with it's own software and setup should be pretty simple. I hope I have been helpful.

I am using my mic and it dosent work. IT says it is working but its not. IT dosent record any sound

Not sure what kind of microphone you're using but if it is plugged into a receiver (which is the heading you have your question under) it must be powered with either batteries or a preamp.

The receiver input jack does not provide the power required for the microphone to record sound. It will show something is connected, but nothing will record. Inexpensive microphone preamps and powered microphones can be found at any major electronics store.
