Finder and monitor image problem

When I look through the lcd or view finder myimageruns together in a vertical mess. It appears that I am looking through a smeared window pane. When I snap the picture the recorded image is also smeared. What's up here? It has been this way for months and thecamerahas always been inside and dry. Thanks

Exact same problem as described above. I've tried taking out the batter and also used the reset button as described in the manual w/no success.

This sounds very much like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Sony should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following link for more info. I think you'll be happy:

D80 Monitor does not function as view finder.

To be able to do what you want, your camera would have to have a feature called "live view"....yours does not.

Monitor problem.

This may be intentional. Some higher end cameras don't use viewfinders to take pictures, just to review them.
In looking up your camera, it appears that you *can* use the LCD to take pictures.
My guess is that the camera's set up to shut off the LCD when you get the camera close to your eye, to take a picture.  Try taking a picture with the view finder from farther away from your face.
It's probably a safety feature so you don't go blind from the light on the LCD.

LCD on - view image prior to taking photo

The feature you are referring to is called "Live View mode".

This is NOT available on the Nikon D80, and was only introduced on the D90, which is available now.

Live View mode allows you to use the LCD screen as your view finder instead of using the eyepiece, but unfortunately, this feature is not available in your model.

I recently bought a Nikon D-40 and was wondering if there was a way to take pictures using the monitor rather than looking through the view finder. I have looked at the directions numerous times yet can't...

Nope. The LCD is only for viewing images in playback mode, and for setting the menu choices. Very few digital SLR's have what you are looking for, which is most commonly called "live view". Frankly, it isn't a very easy thing to use on any camera I've seen, because you need to lock the mirror in the up positon, view your image on the LCD and compose the shot, then lower the mirror before you can take the picture. Once you're used to the eye-level viewfinder, I think you'll find it's just fine. Enjoy your D-40.

Blurry image in view finder

Digital Camera and Video Phone Number 1 800 222 7669 - it's automated, just say your model number, then "no" to accessories, then "no" to connection problems, then "picture" for ccd issues. Its that easy!

Powershot S1 IS trouble shooting in images of lcd monitor

Try playing back pictures you know were captured properly ( either with another properly working camera or with your camera before the problem with quality has appeared ). If the image is ok in playback but 'noisy' in capture mode then the CCD sensor is faulty /on its way out. Ask Canon if they repair CCD faults on this model free of charge.

could be a monitor miscalibration. Sometimes, pictures will be different than what it appears LCD monitor brightness cud be high and PC monitor brightness might be low... Did u try printing some of the dark pictures? if printed photos are different, then its defintely a calibration issue.
