The printer is turned on and it just says offline on the printer status

The obvious cause of brother printer saying its offline is because it is not set as the default printer on your computer. You can easily change the status of Brother MFC 5890 CN printer offline to online. Under the devices section in your computer check, if it is listed as devices. You must re install the driver from the website. In case, you need to use the Brother Printer offline. Right click on the icon of Brother Printer machine. The most likely cause for this OFFLINE status on the PC is which interface is selected on the printer.
I think the printer defaults to Serial interface, so if you are using USB ensure you select the USB interface via the control panel on the printer, similarly if the connection is parallel ensure the parallel interface is selected.
If the connection is serial, ensure the cable is of the correct pin configuration and ensure the serial interface is set up correctly.

Printer status offline means that, the printer driver and the application has been installed, but the printer and it spooler services are idle

To resolve this issue:

Goto control panel, click on printers and faxes, a window will open showing you all the printers you have or have had. The current printer will have a checked mark. Highlight it and right click, you will see printer offline in the box, click it. That will turn the printer online and you can print.

If the printer status is offline it means that you are either A) not connected to the printer by USB/Serial/Parallel B) Connected to the same network as the network printer or C) The printer is not turned on with the approriate connection plugged into the printer/computer.

check that the printer is turn on, if on turn it off and on again, secondly check by double clicking the printer icon on your pc start bar i,t will open a pop/dialogue box, click on file and see if the offline is tick if so disable the tick.

go to your programs and select printer and faxes..rigth click your printer icon and select use this printer online..and if you want make this printer to be a default printer select also use this printer as default..
