Why would the Gateway FPD 1730 17 in. Flat Panel LCD Monitor turn on,,then go right back off,,if you leave it unhooked for a few days then it will work for a short time than quit again

kennetharmol, When the monitor lcd screen goes to black condition, you must shine a bright flashlight 1 inch from screen to evaluate if "switch-mode-power-supply"/"CCFL inverter" board is in partial or full shutdown mode!!! Partial = you can see WIN-desktop! Full = not see!! When you stated in your own words "WILL WORK" means 85 to 98 percent chance your working monitor can be repaired on a DIY basis for under $10 in parts. Read my testimonials then through the longer responses in profile and then follow links to other good, but more technicial DIY info on the web. Keep me posted of your progress or lack of !! This sounds like a typical Capacitor in the Power Supply fault. Some people take them apart and replace the capacitors, however I recommend that you get a "Quote" for repair, as these often "Chain Fault" and I have seen a lot of disappointed would be fixers.

How can i reset my gateway fpd 1930 lcd

At the bottom of the monitor, there are some buttons. Pushing the right-most button (Auto/Set) will enable the automatic configuration to happen. This will "automatically optimize the monitor's image position, clock, and phase."

Sounds as if your monitor is not receiving a signal from your video card. In all likelihood, the video card came unseated during the move. Open the case and re-seat the video card, that should do the trick.

Write back if that does not solve the problem.

Gateway FPD 1730 Monitor

Like all things expensive, it depends what you do with it.
If you leave it on 24/7 then you shorten it considerably.
Turn it off when you leave the room, take some compressed air and clean the dust out once a month.
Make sure the monitor is off when you clean the front, use a dry cloth, if it's smeared with gunk, use the appropriate cleaner for it, not Windex. Pick up some nexxtech cleaning gel ($4.00).
You treat it with love and it will be reciprocated for years to come. Enjoy!

Monitor goes blank

I was thinking about your problem, I just had a similar issue and the problem is that the inverter or the power supply with an embedded inverter had gone bad.

The reason it goes black is because the inverter fails to provide power to the LCD Display.

The only way to fix this is to open up the FPD:

*note these are instructions for the most popular FPD 1730*

1.there should be four screws on the back --> plus two large screws that hold the FPD stand and the Monitor together.

2.Open the back by pulling the cover off
Remove 7 screws holding the frame and the power button for the LCD

3.Remove two screws through holding a silver cover and remove cables.(pinkwhite) (blackwhite)
Please note where they belong before removal**

4.On the edges left and right are two screws 4 total ---> remove and remove LCD off of frame**becareful because the backlight Damaging can cause severe damage to your LCD panel.

5.Choose your model
Your FPD has 3 boards (power, inverter(backlights) Logic Video)
replace the inverter with well known good one

Your FPD has 2 boards(Power with inverter on edges, Logic Video)
replace the power board with a well known good one

6.Then do steps 1-5 in reverse order(putting your FPD back together.

I hope this is significant help

If you can see the screen display an image upon close scrutiny, it could be that the florescent back light is burned out.
