Check the height adjustment of the print head for the black cartridge. If you've had a recent paper jam, it could have a piece stuck in mechanics. Clean and check the printer drive belt and track.
You may want to check the printer setup and make sure it is set to factory defaults.

Good Luck

Caution lite flashing over cartridge of hp deskjet 940c. error message says that there is not color ink cartridge in printer. There is and the interface says the tank is full. It won't print...

Even though the interface says the cartridge is full, if the printer detects it being empty, odds are you will have to replace the color cartridge, even though you are only printing black.
You can try taking the cartridge out and cleaning the contacts with a pencil eraser and reseat the color cartridge. If no change, replace the cartridge.

How to restore your inkjet printer so it prints just like new!

Inkjet printers all operate the same basic way. There are differences but the basics are the same for any inkjet devices. Eventually a buildup occurs enough that your printer doesn't print. Cleaning cycles use more and since inkjet ink is worth about $8000 a gallon, this is a expensive way to clean something.

So what can we do to clean this just a bit cheaper? We need to find a suitable solvent that will dissolve these deposits without harming the print head. And the one that works great and is dirt cheap is good old household white vinegar. Next we want to get some lint free (preferred but not critical) paper towels. And a clean clear table top to work. You may want to put down some newspaper. This isn't that messy to do but it can get the odd bit of dissolved ink on things.

Now we take the printer and remove the paper and the ink cartridges and set aside. The print head is a small stamp sized thing on the bottom of the cartridge holder. Take about 1/3 of a sheet of paper towel and wet it with vinegar. Next you want to get the wetted towel under the print head. It should fit as this is where the paper goes you print. The towel is a thicker but it is soft. move the print head back and forth over the towel. When the towel is covered with ink, change it and repeat. Keep repeating this until the towel comes clean. It will only take a few minutes. When the towel is clean then you are done. Replace the ink cartridges and paper and you are ready to print.

I have a HP officejest 6500 wireless 3-in-1 and when i'm trying to print a document in black ink, it sometimes prints in black and sometimes in yellow. what is wrong and how can i fix it?

Printer cartridges are very sensitive, especially the contact points. Reseat the cartridges, clean the contact point with a soft cloth, reinstall and perform test print again. Just make sure that there's still an ink in the cartridges...

I have a hp officejet 5510 that prints the first line and the next is light and than dark and than light again

Hi,
The problem could be caused due to blocked printer nozzles or bad print head. Try cleaning the ink nozzles first.
1 Press Setup.
2 Press 5, then press 1.
This selects Tools and then selects Clean Print Cartridge.
A page of patterns is printed. The print cartridges are cleaned. Recycle or
discard the page.
If copy or print quality still seem poor after you clean the print cartridges,
replace the print cartridge that is affected. For information on replacing
print cartridges, see replace the print cartridges.

Printer has full compatable cartridges but says all need replacing. Recently changed magental cartridge and printed one doc and then this happened.

check the reader connection where the printer reads the cartridge . Ink sometime spills on theis surface causing misreads by the printer , clean it with either a diaper wipe or some alcol wipe GENTLY on the connector/and cartridge connector and reinstall the cartridges.

New Brother MFC 885CW - fails to print in black - even with new cartridge.

Have you tried to align the print cartridge? Also, try cleaning the nozzle, both using the Brother diagnostics utilities that should have come with the printer. If all else fails it may be the print carriage that's broken.

Printer no black

hi hedleygb,

I recommend that you make absolutely sure that you are following the correct procedure when you are installing the print cartridge. For this I need you to follow the instructions at
http://solutions.brother.com/mfc210c_all/en_us/options/us/
(click on the View PDF File link, especially the part about removing the new print cartridge's Cartridge Cover before installing it in your printer)

If you've made sure that you're following the correct procedure during the installation of the cartridge and the printer still won't print black, I recommend reinstalling the printer on your PC with the latest drivers. To do this you can follow the following steps;
(if these steps aren't sufficient for you to do the reinstallation, feel free to give me more info about the operating system you are running on your PC in the comments of this problem, so that I can give you more detailed steps on how to perform the reinstallation).
  1. Uninstall your printer's driver from your PC's operating system (e.g. Windows)
  2. Download the latest drivers for the MFC 210C at
    http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/BSC/Public/Templates/DownloadTop.aspx?NRMODE=Published&NRNODEGUID=%7b66D791E0-6EB2-410E-9602-7BFFA80A61D3%7d&NRORIGINALURL=%2fbsc%2fpublic%2feu%2feu_ot%2fen%2fdlf%2fdownload_top%2ehtml%3freg%3deu%26c%3deu_ot%26lang%3den%26prod%3dmfc210c_all&NRCACHEHINT=NoModifyGuest&prod=mfc210c_all&reg=eu&c=eu_ot&lang=en
At Step1: Select Type select Driver
At Step2: Select OS select the operating system you run on your PC (e.g. Windows XP or Windows Vista)
At Step3: Select Language select your preferred language
  3. Reinstall the printer using the guidelines as documented in the printer's manual, which can be downloaded at
    http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public/eu/eu_ot/en/doc/manual_index.html?reg=eu&c=eu_ot&lang=en&prod=mfc210c_all&type2=5&flang=English&dlid=
Feel free to contact me again via the comments of this problem if you need more information.

If you have completed the above mentioned troubleshooting processes and the printer's problem hasn't been solved this could indicate a hardware malfunction of one of the printer's components. In which case the printer should be serviced by a IT technician at a PC repair workshop.

I hope you find this info helpful in solving the problem with your printer and thanks for using the FixYa service
Kind regard
