I think we need at least a brand name, if not a model number. Most cameras have the "video" mode under the icon that looks like a film camera. Resolution settings are often on the screen display under menu - settings. A lot depends on the brand.

You can find the user manual here - http://www.nikonusa.com/pdf/manuals/coolpix/CP8700_en.pdf

Resolution modes are found on page 32 (and instructions on the exact buttons to push).
Choosing video mode is found on page 51.

I have a Fuji FinePix A 205 camera and replaced the 16mb card that came with the camera with a 256mb card. I can take lots more photos and SHOULD be able to record a longer movie but can unfortunately only...

I don't know what manual you're reading but the camera will only record 80 seconds at the lowest resolution. This is a very old camera that still uses the now extinct XD card. If movies really interest you, consider getting a new camera. The new models have literally hundreds of new features that I'm sure you will really like.

Hi,

Press the MENU button to bring up the Record mode Menu. You can use this shortcut menu to quickly change image resolution, reset all settings to factor defaults, enter Panorama mode, enable Picture+Sounds, enable Silent mode, change the scene mode (when set to the SCN position on the mode dial) as well as enter the Setup menu.

Hope this helps.

How can i change the resolution from low to high?

Change shooting mode dial to the shooting mode you want to use.
> then press Func. button
> Menu will appear.
>use the Scrool up down key to select menu item.
>go to the last item and select L and Fine.
After selecting you can press Func. button again.

This will select the highest resolution possible on this camera...
Enjoy

Changing Movie Recording Pixels

I phoned canon customer service. They said that you must turn the dial around the function set key. It will then change the movie mode from compact to standard ... and then you will be able to change the resolution. When I did it, the resolution went back to 640, which is the resolution on which I had it previously. Well before the compact mode issue.

Memory

Ok, here's the deal...

The '9 hours' of recording time is a bench mark only... The unit only comes with 64 MB of internal memory, and when you are recording in the highest resolution, (Mpeg4) mode, then it eats up the available space really fast. Keep in mind, that in high resolution video mode, as opposed to standard, you will eat up at least 64 in about 7 minutes, not 5.

I dropped a 512 MB SD card in the camcorder, and on high resolution video, you might get away with 45 minutes to and hour. The camcorder records in 640 by 480 resolution, which isn't bad, but certainly isn't in DVD quality either...

So, pick youself up a 2 GB SD card, and you will certainly get up to at least 5 hours in standard mode. Rule of thumb, 400 MB per hour in standard mode. But, if you also go into the camera mode and take high resolution photos, that will also eat up your available storage ability...

Any other questions, just let me know...

Trouble with videos

Good Day, your resolution was changed to 160, thats why it has blank borders during playback, return to 640 fine or standard resolution by pressing the garbage/pail button while in video clip mode, move cursor up to 640, its up to you fine or standard, fine mode is more detailed and will eat up more memory space. hope this will help, thanks
