Question about Sony ACY-BR81/OB

Grinding PSP joystick

I am having problems with the joystick on my PSP slim.
I had this problem with the first PSP slim I bought and I returned it for another and here about 2 months later, same problem.
It feels like it is grinding against the plastic on the inside and makes kind of a "halting, stuttery" movements when you try to use itwhich can be quite irritating, especially when playing games like "wipeout pure" as you cannot properly control your vehicle.
Is there some way it can be lubricated, like with powdered carbon graphite or something?
Or maybe taken out and modified?
Thanks in advance for any advice offered! :)

Yeah, I went ahead and did that a couple of weeks ago.

Found a reasonably priced one on e-Bay that I ordered, but am still waiting for the arrival.

I took the faceplate off to locate the joystick and to check the placement of everything, and yes, it is quite easy to remove and replace...I also have a really nice micro screwdriver set that I bought at an electronics store which helped considerably.

I even managed to remove the warranty sticker with no damage using a hairdryer to heat the sticker so that the adhesive would release easier, so hopefully this will not render my warranty void.

    Anyhow, I appreciate the advice!

    Thank you :)

I have another issue with the Nyko Theater Experience. You modded it for the PSP slim? Can you e-mail me the instruction to mod it?

You have to replace the joystick. do not use graphite as it will conduct accross the track. You need a thin philips srewdriver to remove 5 srews one under the label that says do not remove label in battery compartment.once all srews are removed cover pops out and its very easy to replace unit. Look on ebay for replacement joystick for SLIM MODEL PSP.

Anyone replaced the Slim analog before?

You are risking to damage your psp using the wrong part, if you want to proceed in this way cut the rubber with a cutter. My main suggestion is buying right controller for your psp.

How to Replace Analog Joystick on PSP-2001

If your PSP's joystick won't go in a certain direction -- or characters walk by themselves, this part needs to be replaced. It is sold at the website all the way at the bottom for $16.95 and they can do this repair job for $18 more! However, it's not very difficult. Here are the steps:

Step 1. Open PSP. There are 2 screws on the top of the PSP.

Step 2. There are 4 screws behind the PSP and one on the bottom, as circled in the picture.

Step 3. Remove the faceplate and locate the PSP 2001 Analog Assembly. It is held into the console by 1 black screw, as circled in the picture.

Step 4. Remove the black screw and pry the joystick out of the PSP as shown below.

Step 5. It is important that you remove this clear silicon piece from the old joystick and install it into the new one. Its purpose is to communicate the movement of the joystick from the assembly to the motherboard. It sits between the assembly and the motherboard.

Step 6. After you transfer the piece, pry the motherboard slightly up as you slide the new assembly back in place as pictured.

Step 7. You will need to pry this piece up to slide the assembly into place so that it is seated. Replace the black screw and close it back up.

I have 2 psp slims with broken joysticks

Find the model number underneath the battery. You can get replacement joystick depending on the model on ebay. Then follow a disassembly guide, this one is good, and while being VERY careful with the screen (they crack very easily) you can remove the bits you need to and put a new joystick in.
