I have the same problem. really annoying!!! Although mine does photocopy and scan but comes out with a block of grey to one side of the page. Please help...

Scanning documents to PDF file on your Lexmark X1270 printer requires the Lexmark OCR scan software installed on your computer. If you don't have the installation disc that came with your printer, please contact Lexmark Technical Support Center for assistance.
GO ONLINE TO LEX MART AND TECHNICAL SUPPORT, YOU MAY FIND IT UNDER DOWNLOADS ALSO, THE HAVE MAINTANCE SECTIONS THAT ALSO WILL HAVE INFORMATION ON THE PRINTER, YOU WILL HAVE TO HAVE ADOBE SOFTWARE THAT THEY PROVIDE AT NO COST, VIEW THE MANUAL ONLINE , PUT IN FAVORATES, SAVE SCREEN, BOOKMARK IT FOR LATER NOTES
just place the document or photo which you want to copy on the scanner glass and then press COLOUR/BLACK option which you require.and keep the copy option ON in the printer .it will photocopy what you want.
For the printer to scan you have to have the Lexmark software installed and running. With the software running all you have to do is hit the scan button software can be found here
