Small puddle of water under washer - noticed about a year ago but problem went away. Now the wash machine smell really badly - like a dead animal. seems like the odor is from somewhere underneath the machine inside smells fine. Ran machine several times with bleach and that does not address the smell. As a rule, we always keep the soap tray and door to the wash machine open per instructions from the sales person. What should we do?

hi there is a build up of lime and old dirt in the inside of your drum the best thing to get rid of the smell is put a very small amount of bleach in the drum and put your machine on a very hot wash it will help in your hand book it will tell you to use your hot wash with a bit of powder and no cloths at leased once a month i dont know if you use your hottest wash most people dont these days because of the low temp powders, also the best product to use is lim away but you can only get it on usa bases or from the usa you might find someone on line that sells it that will get rid of all the lime thats been built up in your machine if you cant just use a bit of thick bleach hope this was helpful
A good trick that i found was to fill tub with hot water and put a full cup of dishwasher detergent any kind but has to be powdered not liquid detergent. Do this two times in a row and then every month.
Hi, I can't be sure without looking at the machine but I have had several of these type of machines the get cloths under the agitator "wash plate thing" in the bottom of the basket. This will eventually clog up the pump but stuff that hangs out in there can really get to smelling after a while. Try removing the wash plate and see if you see anything under there. In the future make sure you use a lingerie bag for all small items to prevent them from getting stuck under the wash plate.
Wash on hottest and longest cycle with regular laundry soap and a bottle of vinegar. After cycle, wash again with soap on hottest/longest cycle. This will clean your washer like new.
From another consumer with the same problem: The mildew smell started about a month after we got it and got increasingly worse! Had a service tech out who replaced the gasket, but he left me a product called WHIRLOUT. It is made for hot tubs and spas and whirlpool tubs. You can get it at a pool supply or Home Depot or Lowe's. It is made to remove the soap scum buildup that provides a growing environment for the bacteria, which produces the smell. You add about a cup to the normal wash cycle. Do not put in the dispenser, add when the water is in the tub. I ran it through twice the first time. Then about once a month to keep it clean. Another thing he told me, don't use dryer sheets in the dryer because they will eventually cause a film to build up on the sensors that tell you when the clothes are dry. I've switched to Downey fabric softener in the washer. He also told me NOT to use a really thick fabric softener because it will not go easily through the dispenser. There is a drain hose by the filter on the washer - pull it out first and drain the left over water into a bowl or pitcher before you clean the filter. This will prevent the mess when cleaning the filter!!! LG never told me this, the same technician showed me this, too!
There is a door on the bottom og this machine, I opened the door to find a little spot, I placed a bowel under the spout and opened it, drained all of the liquid out and this problem stopped! I also ran the machine on hot water with bleach after I emptied this resevoir. How often you do laundry will determine how often you must empty it. For me, once every 6-8 months does the trick!
this is caused by a build up of old detergent and limescale.there are some industrial strength descalers around.wpro descaler is one.add the sachet to the drum with no wash load.pour in a kettle of hot water(not boiling)and leave for thirty minutes.then put washing machine on a 60 degree cycle and allow to run right through.you will need to repeat approximately every three months
I also have had issues with a bad smelling LG Tromm 2277 washer when we
leave the door closed after using it. One note on the LG site mentions
that soap/scum buildup on the washer drum can encourage mold growth.
They suggested running an empty wash load and then pause it after the
water fills and add a hot tub cleaning product (Whirl Out - I got it at
Lowe's) and restart the load. This stuff should help remove the soap
scum and limit the smelly mold growth. My washer does not smell as bad
after using it. I also have run an empty cycle with only bleach using
the very hot sanitary load setting.
