My remote control works sporadically. Usually works opening the door but very sporadic in closing the door. And I need to wait at least 5 minutes between uses of the remote. I bought 2 new remotes and still have the same problem.
The receiver is part of the logic board. The part number is printed on the panel where all those white wires go. It starts with 41A. You can call around and check prices. If you live in a larger city you may find a door opener service company that will sell you a used part.

Check or change your batteries. Age and weather can effect a frequency change in the transmitters performance. Are the car remotes still functioning at their original distance? If there OK then the receiver in the garage is still "tuned in". I am assuming your describing a "remote" wall control unit.
Sounds like a track problem. It happens sporadically because the track will occasionally align itself when the window is closed, allowing you to open the window normally but will work itself away fromthe door after you open it. You probably hear a strange noise when closing the window. The track needs repair. This will require opening the door panel to secure the track or replace it altogether.
Is a bad receiver easy to replace?
