Canon mp830 cannot print is printing only in color. Put in new black BK8 and PGBK5, but just prints blanks

Could have ruined the head from not proper cooling from the ink supply.
Try to clean the head using 8 oz. hot water (preferably distilled) and 1 oz. ammonia.
Make sure the intake ports are submerged for 30=45 minutes. Dry the head completely and re-install.
Gently tap the PGI5 BLK on a towel and make sure ink comes out.
If so do a deep clean and a head alignment page.
If nopt you may need a print head that I can supply.

Canon MP830 had a paper jam that forced a black sponge/foam piece out. Prints ok now. Do I need the sponge/foam piece?

Hi!
You must replace it because the sponge absorbe your waste ink from your cartridge. If you don't replace it, your cartridge will not long last.... thanks

My size 8 black ink has run out. I have plenty of

Hi, i advice you don't force it because it wont still work,
size 8 is the the design of the manufacturer so you have to just put aside your larger 5 cartridge and get size 8 cartridge that is the original design. .

I wish you best of luck.

PIXMA MP500

The number 5 is a Pigment text black while the number 8 is a dye photo black. The text black is for black text mainly and the photo black is for use when printing photos. Since the text black is always running out it means you are printing a lot of documents in plain paper mode.

I recommend using QUALITY refill ink like Hobbicolors which is sold on eBay and will save you a bundle of money. The MP830 is a 5 ink printer so you need the 5 ink kit like the IP4300.

Refilling Ink in Canon Pixma MP830

Hello, I found this in a repair manual for the MP830. summery is to press and hold the stop/reset button for 5 or more seconds. I copied the info from the manual too. The remaining ink amount unknown. [1683] (Applicable ink tank icon) The remaining level of the following ink cannot be correctly detected. An ink tank which has once been empty is installed. Replace the applicable ink tank with a new one. Printing with a once-empty or refilled ink tank can damage the print head. If printing is continued without replacing the refilled ink tank, press the Stop/Reset button for 5 sec. or longer to record the use of a refilled ink tank. Note: After the above operation, the function to detect the remaining ink amount is disabled.
