How do i transfer pictures from my samsung galaxy to the sd card to put on the laptop

The Samsung Galaxy is difficult to download photos from; hopefully te designers do not see any more vested interestes and make it easier next time. The trick is to find the device on your computer after connecting the usb port. The only way I could do that on mind was on the first start up of a fresh computer session. It then prompted, and that is Windows prompted, whether to view the files in the new device. (On any subsequent attempt other than a completely fresh start up the Windows did not give me second chance. Once into Windows and the phone itself it was relatively simple, going to the DCIM folder in the phone, thumbnailing the photos, copy and pasting them all to a folder in my My Pictures.
