Screen will not stay on

I have a Dell B130 laptop. I have owned this for just over a year. It seems to boot fine but the screen is very very dim. Sometimes I will be able to see the boot screen and them it turns black. I can hear Windows XP loading and can barely see anything. Is there someone that can help try to fix this problem?

I have a B130 with the same problem and I have already replaced the inverter. It acts the same as before with the new inverter installed. When I turn the power 'on' the screen works for a sec or two then goes black. Sometimes it will stay on for about 10 seconds then go black, and I can get it to stay on for a few minutes at times and then go black with no warning. If you close then open the screen it will make the screen turn on again, either for a second or a minute or two. The screen looks fine when it works with no dicoloration or lines. I have noticed that when it works ok, if I slightly move the screen...poof, the screen shuts off. This indicates to me that it may be the cable between the motherboard and the LCD. Could it be after opening and closing the screen so many times that it has a weak or broken wire? Please help.

I've had that same problem with the Inspiron b-130, and it was with the motherboard. There's a circuit on the motherboard that sends a signal called "Brite-On" to the inverter. If the Brite-On" signal isn't being sent to the inverter, the inverter won't work, and the screen will go dark.

The first thing to check is the LCD or Screen inverter. It is a small board that at the bottom of screen. You have to open up the plastic part of the screen or LCD. Usually this part goes bad.

I am sending you a link of a sample from ebay,

My dell inspiron b130 boots up but monitor is black

After your laptop boots up into windows, hold down the Fn key and as your doing that press the F8 button that should switch the output from the vga connetor to the LCD screen on the laptop.

If you still don't get video then you'll have to reseat the LCD cable from the back of the LCD screen to where it connects to the motheboard.

If you still don't get video then its either going to be a bad LCD or a bad motherboard.

Dell Inspiron B130 was black when turned on. Holding flashlight to screen, could see desktop and all icons. Was able to open programs, etc., while looking with flashlight. Replaced LCD Inverter listed for...

You could have a defective screen - a defective inverter or a CCFL lamp.
To determine if you have a LCD screen or video card problem, read this and follow the instructions.

Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom:

  • Screen flashs on red/pink and off.
  • Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal.
  • Picture flickering with dim display.
  • Picture flickering on and off.
All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

I have a inspiron B130 and it wont boot i just disk rom installed.... now i try to boot from disk rom and it doesnt allow me to do anything it just restarted comes to a blue screen and restart

when computer comes up just after the dell screen hit the f12 key along the top. It will give you the option of booting from cd or hard drive. Pick the cd and if your cd is bootable it should boot from it.If it still gives you blue screen you probably have bad memory.

Dell b130 will not stay on unless it is plugged into the wall

The battery may be bad or the charging mechanism of the battery area. OR you may have some undocked (battery run setting) that is dimming the screen or turning off the monitor when you are running on battery where you think it is off but the screen needs to be lightened or powered on.
I would first take a look at your Power Settings in the control panel and see what they are set to.

B130 Monitor Problem

Connect an external monitor at the back of your laptop and see if the display is fine. If the display is fine with the external monitor, it means to say that there's something wrong with your LCD's backlight. You may have to contact Dell Technical Support to check if your system is still under warranty.

Thanks! :)
