Question about Texas Instruments TI-30 XIIS Calculator

My son has the above calculator (7th grade) and he is having problems simplifying fractions. He said in school they use a calculator that has a Simp button. Does this make sense and can you help us?

You do not simplify fractions on the calculator. If the calculator is able to display fraction results, be sure that the form it gives you is the simplest. If the fraction is a mixed one there is usually a key to switch from mixed to improper, and from improper to mixed the keys are [a b/c] and [d/c]

Two ways:

1) hit the equal sign

2) hit 2nd and [d/c] (you can do this multiple times to see it as the most reduced improper fraction or as a mixed fraction)
