Question about PC Desktops

1 Answer

We have a 2Wire Gateway modem from AT&T but we moved offices a few months back and the power adapter has been misplaced. We've tried AT&T but they've told us they can't provide a replacement and have referred us to our company. I've tried calling today only to be on hold for 12 minutes or longer and since it's a long distance call I decided to give this a try. Can we purchase a replacement power cord? Please let me know ASAP. We are desperate. Thanks, Karen Davis Rosewood Community Church 1397 West Hedding San Jose, CA 95126 408-243-5985

On the bottom of the modem there should be a label with the model number and revision, etc. Please post this info, and we'll see if we can find a power cable you can buy.

As an alternative, it is likely that any number of DSL modems will work. So if the power cable is unavailable or too expensive, we may be able to find another modem that will do the same job.

We have a desktop computer((Model: GATEWAY 838GM) misplace the ADAPTER for the CPU which one to get please thanks

sallyduby we may have some confusion here.

CPU = Central Processing Unit. Another term used is Microprocessor, or simply Processor for short.

CPU does not refer to a Personal Computer. At least not since the 1960's, and not unless you wish to confuse someone with the wrong reference. ;)

This is Gateway Support > Gateway 838GM Desktop PC > Main Support page,

http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/R/5389/5389nv.shtml

In the list click on Components.

A) There is no adapter device for the CD drive, or DVD drive, unless this is a mistaken reference to the flat ribbon data cable

B) There is no adapter device for the Harddrive, unless this is a mistaken reference to the SATA data cable that connects the SATA harddrive to the motherboard.

C) There IS possibly an adapter for the Keyboard, if you are using a Keyboard with a USB connector on the end of the cable, and are not using the original Keyboard that has a PS/2 connector.

Example;

http://www.directron.com/freeusbps2.html

D) There is no adapter for the Media Card Reader, unless this is a mistaken reference to the data cable that connects the Media Card Reader to the motherboard.

E) There are no adapters for the Ram Memory module/s.

F) There are no adapters for the Modem. The Modem plugs straight into the motherboard.

G) There are no adapters for the Motherboard, unless a USB mouse, or again a USB keyboard, is being used.
The same style of adapter for the USB Keyboard will also work for a USB mouse.

H) There is no adapter for the Power Supply, unless this is a reference to a power cable adapter that could go to a computer case fan, from a 4-pin standard Peripheral power cable.

http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#peripheral

(The 4-pin standard Peripheral power cable, and it's connector, are shown in the middle photo.
The Harddrive example/s shown is an IDE {PATA} harddrive. This style of Harddrive uses a 4-pin standard Peripheral power cable)

I) There is no adapter for the Intel Pentium 4 CPU {Processor} (3.0GHz, 800MHz FSB)

The motherboard has an LGA 775 processor socket.
The Processor has the socket holes, while the processor socket has the pins.
775 socket holes, 775 pins.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGA_775

Unless this is a mistaken reference to the Fan/Heatsink combo that sits on top of the CPU.

Typical Fan/Heatsink combo example of Processors (CPU's) using an LGA 775 processor socket,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2943299&CatId=493

(Except the Gateway version is square)

J) No adapter for the Speakers unless I am mistaken.

Post back in a Comment, and give at least a general description of the adapter you are referencing to.

joecoolvette

Dell gx620 wont turn on only get blinking amber start button

It is probably in "lower power mode". First try hitting enter a couple times and moving the mouse.

If that doesn't do anything try unplugging the power cord for a couple of seconds and plugging it back in.

If neither of those work the next steps will involve opening the computer (only do this if you're familiar enough).

First unplug the PC before all of these steps...

Open the PC and check to be sure the RAM sticks are securely seated.

Try taking the CMOS battery out for a few seconds then putting it back in. The CMOS battery will be onthe motherbard. It is a small silver coin-shaped battery sometimes used in watches and cameras and other gadgets. Be sure to put it back in the same way it was when you took it out.

If none of that worked check to be sure any other components are firmly seated in their slots.

If none of this has worked I would say call dell support to see what they say.

First look in device manager and verify that the network adapter is enabled, if so you can try disabling it then shut down and reboot the PC.
Once booted, go back into device manager and enable the network adapter.
Run the software that came with your router and follow the steps provided.
Make sure your network cable from your router is NOT connected untill instructed to do so.
You will need to have the network cable from your modem connected to your PC for the router software to detect network connection.

Good luck, I hope this helps.
Have a nice day.

Why does my 2wire modem often show disconnection

Wireless network requires the modem to be placed at such a place so that there are not too many things come in its way. Eventhough the modem works for few time , putting the modem at top place not covered by so many things would make the modem works better and not to stop often.

Try reinstalling audio adapter driver.

If you have misplaced original driver disk, Gateway drivers are available from: Gateway Support - Drivers, Software and Firmware Updates

No internet acces at all

Hi.
There are a couple of ways to troubleshoot this problem, i doubt that three months away will have caused this.
Ok, first off we'll check the modem, go to the modem and take the power lead from the back of that for 2 minutes, don't unplug it from the wall because there is still a trickle charge in the wire, the modem will not reset!!!
After 2 minutes is up plug the adapter back in and wait another 2 minutes for it to settle down, then try to reconnect to the net again.
If there is still no internet connection post back and we can move on to the network adapter.

Good luck

I have 2 Gateway laptop computers and in one of them the CDROM Drive got fried. I would like to replace it with the one from the other laptop. How do I exchange them?

Before beginning, review electrostatic discharge (ESD) precautions. Disconnect the power adapter, the modem and network cables, and remove the battery before removing the hard drive bay cover. Remove the RAM door whichi s secured by one screw. Now loosen the two hard drive screws and pull the DVD/CD-RW drive from the laptop. Replace the cover before restoring power or reconnecting the modem and network cables.
For Gateway go to http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/Gateway/M275/3501734faq42.shtml
