    Sony VAIO PCG-6L1L

screen went dark, you can still barely see screen in the background. Tried a duplicatepower cord and still is dark. Tried the FN+F7 and you can barely see the brightness indicator at full bright. Turned off and back on, still dark.

I have the same issue. I know the lamp is good, because when I enter the CMOS setup, the screen is bright, and stays that way for hours. I wiped the HD clean and reloaded window. When booting form the CD, the screen is bright up to the point when the windows loader is launched. I have popped the speakers, and power button off as well as the front basil, and I can not find any switch, or sensor. What’s my next step?

15.5inch screen, core i5 series.with windows update stalled. worked perfectly before that.when switched the logo appears and begins loading then istead of going to the login screen it goes black, even if i give it an hour to load.

I DONT SEE ANYTHING IN MY SCREEN BUT TOTALLY DARK

If you shine a bright light at the screen and you can see something, the back light/inverter may have failed. If nothing at all, check on an external screen.

Dark Screen

Sounds like you broke your backlight and need a new LCD screen. A new one can be found here for $70.

The screen goes very dark within a minute after booting up = I can just barely see the menu page

When you say screen goes very dark when it booted to windows so it means that when you turned on the laptop when the dell logo flashes the screen was fine? if thats the case could you please try this. after turning on the laptop you will see the dell logo flashes immediately keep tapping on F2 and then it will show you the BIOS setup utility, please check if in BIOS setup display goes dark as well. If yes then try this, after turning on the computer when dell logo flashes keep tapping on F12 to boot menu then select utility partition to run the diagnostics. Please run test on the LCD check if display goes black when running the LCD test. Then try this when you sees the dell logo keep tapping on F8 to boot in safe mode check if in safe mode display goes very dark. Try this too, boot in F8 then select last known good configuration check if the settings on your display will be fix. If you can boot to safe mode no problem then uninstall the display or video driver. then restart computer.
You can also try to connect an external monitor if you have one just try to isolate if issue is on the LCD or the video card. If the display is dark as well in external monitor then video card needs to be reseated if fails then replaced. In situation like this most video cards is integrated to the motherboards. So replace motherboard.

Screen appears dark

Have you tried to adjust the brightness to see if it not just on the lowest setting. If that doesn't work you can try to unplug the connection for the lcd and plug it back in to see if that works, if not the the lcd backlight is probably burnt out which would require replacing the whole lcd.

Sony VAIO PCG-K25 Dark Screen

Do you get the same result if its plugged in or running off battery? Try holding down the "FN" key or function key and using one of the Function keys i believe its F6 on the sony's to brighten up your screen if that doesn't work try downloading and reinstalling your video driver and finally you may have a video card issue
