Touchscreen/Writing Area problem - Tungsten E2

I've tried a soft and factory reset and neither fixed my touchscreen problem. The touchscreen is working precisley but the writing area does not bring up the ABC/123 keyboard. It seems like the writing area is not recognizing my taps. Grafiiti2 works but the ABC/123 buttons to bring up the keyboard do not work. Any suggestions?

Thanks, that was the first thing I tried with no success. I've seen other blogs where people have the same problem and apparently Palm wants $140 to fix it. It's a bug and they haven't posted any patches to fix it. It's a shame because I really like the Tungsten E2 but for $140, I will buy a new one... and it won't be a Palm.

Those areas are near the bottom of the screen. If your calibration is just a bit off the edges of the screen would show it most. Have you tried recalibrating the touch screen? Open "Prefs", then "Touchscreen".

One more thing. As my battery got flakey, the calibration went out of whack more easily. If you don't fear opening the E2 you could get a replacement battery on eBay. (This would void your warranty ... but if you were still under warranty then Palm should fix it no charge.)

Handheld will no longer hotsync. I think the program was corrupted on the computer and I accidentally deleted one of the files. I'd like to download another program and reinstall it on my computer.

Hi Dr.Coldoff,

Please remove and reinstall the software to see if it works. Or else try to reset your Device:
How to reset the Tungsten E2
1 Press and hold the power button.
2 While holding the power button, use the tip of the stylus (or a similar object
without a sharp tip) to gently press and release the reset button inside the hole
on the back of your handheld.
3 Wait for the Palm Powered? logo to appear, and then release the power button.
4 When you see the message that warns you about erasing all of the info on your
handheld, do one of the following:
* Press Up on the 5-way navigator to finish the reset and show the touchscreen.
* Press any other button to do a soft reset.

In case you are facing any difficulties, forward me your email ID and I will reply to it

The touchscreen on my Palm Tungsten E2 quit working. I had no luck after cleaning the screen, soft reset, or hard reset. Is there anything else I can try or is it shot?

It is a shot, or you can get someone to open it and check the connections....I'm sure you prob can find a replacement on ebay.

Palm Tungsten E2

Try the hard reset procedure.

If still is failing, then the digitizer is defective and needs to be replaced.

You can find digitizer parts in ebay or other on-line companies, at reasonable prices.

Regarding the labor cost, depending of the repair shop you choose, it may be cheap or expensive.

Also, if you have minimum experience and skills in fixing electronics, you can try it. really is not so difficult, and minimum set of tools are needed for it

Best regards,

Touchscreen no longer works

Well watch this video and after you follow the directions get the screen and find the glass like cover and remove it from the screen bend it in a very lightly way, then put it back on and put the PDA back together and BAM.
