There is no indication in the user's manual that the voice can be changed. Only the volume of the voice and whether you get a voice annoucement or not, but you can't chage the voice itself.
Bought a new unit. The old unit was a surround sound system in which the previous owner removed the speakers. I wasn't aware of the problem but found out that it would not allow it to play on Dolby 5.1...It would only play DVD's on channel 2, therefore no english etc. Thanks for your help!!!
Are you using a generic charger? or the official TomTom one? While they might all be 12v output (car)- 5v input (unit end) they are different ampages etc. If you are using a generic car charger then a lot of GPS units consider it to be a computer and so goes to docking/sync mode.
The unit may only sound the voice properly if you running off a tomtom charger.
It is possible to turn up the voice level...but you have to be willing to hack the voice file a wee bit with a hex editor.
Just Open the .vpm file you want to modify in the hex editor, and search for "<voice_volume>96</voice_volume>" without the quotation marks...and change the numerical value - I have Australian Karen cranked up to 96. This makes the sound level of the voice prompts comparable to the MP3 level when I hook my Nuvi350 into my vehicle's sound system via the added line input that takes the place of the non-existent CD changer. Before I did this, when I played MP3s at a comfotable listening level, the voice prompts were too quiet. Now, they're comparable.
You cannot customize the voices on this, or any other Garmin product of which I am aware. The Tom Tom Go 720 will allow you to record your own (or someone else's) voice on the unit (50 different phrases). However, any unit with the Text-to-Speech feature (which is what gives you the spoken street names) utilizes computerized voices to put the words together, which is why some sound "garbled." No unit does this better at this time. Tom Tom's pronunciations are, in my opinion, worse if anything (Branch instead of Bridge when abbreviated "Br", Crossing Island Parkway instead of Cross Island Parkway, etc.).
If you lost "all" sound - click the speaker icon (bottom of screen) and make sure all volume is turned up.
If you lost just the voice prompt for turns etc. This happens when you have an extended period of low battery. You need to reinstall the setup CD for the iQue 3600 go through the motions and HotSync the unit - This will reload your voice files.. Jerry ... [email protected]
