Question about Kodak EASYSHARE 5500 All-In-One InkJet Printer
On my 5300 kodak when I try to print on glossy paper the black ink won't print. This only happens with the 81/2x11 glossy. The 4x6 glossy prints fine, as does the 81/2x11 regular paper. Even the windows test page is ok. Ive deep cleaned the print heads and fooled around withe the print quality setting but the problem persists. Ive tired both kodak and 2 other brands of glossy paper. Any ideas ? I'm out of them (ideas, that is ).
It is the print head. Cleaning the heads does not do any good, either does replacing the ink. What you'll need to do is contact Kodak's customer service line and they can replace it for you free of charge. On this site everyone seems to be saying it is consistently the black that stops, however, based on what Kodak said it is possible that either the black or the color can have this same issue.
When you call in they will ask you for your service number, which is located on the bottom left corner of the machine, when you lift the lid (as if you were going to replace the ink). They didn't ask me when I bought it, how much I used it, etc.
They will set up a case for you - it takes 2-3 business days for the print head to arrive. They will provide you with an invoice number as well. Be sure to document it all just incase the head never comes, or if there are additional issues after you receive it (and/or if it doesn't solve the problem)

I have an Easyshare 5300. Black ink wouldn't print for me either. I called Kodak support and the sent me a new printhead with new inks as well and it was all free. The new printhead fixed the problem.

Well, I got a new black cartridge - it printed one decent line of text then a page of really light text. So - downloaded the latest firmware from Do-Hack (Kodak), and now can't print any black at all. Color still working. So now what?
On a side note, this 5300 AIO has been a pain from the start. I had to download all the software and spend an hour on the phone with India just to get it to print, and then it wouldn't scan, so I had to do some magic with the original disk and finally got it working. The ink may be a little cheaper, but it isn't worth the trouble! My old HP312 is still working great at 8-10 years old.

Try going to Kodak's site and download the new Firmware and run the exe Here's a link to the location.
Even if the Firmware is the same version run the update anyway incase its corrupted.

My 5300 printer is only 15 month old and has developed a fault, it will not print in Black. The photo side 6x4 is great but on the A4 side the text is grey and the photos discoloured. I have gone through cleaning the heads both basic and deep, no joy, have recalibrated still no good, any solutions.

Kodak 5300 will not utilize black ink cartridge SOLUTION:
I can't believe this worked but it DID:
1. I downloaded the latest firmware upgrade and installed it. This did NOT fix the issue.
2. I followed the diagnostic wizard on the Kodak web sight which told me to conduct a "Deep Cleaning" utilizing the control panel on the printer.
3. I then printed a diagnostic page and this resolved the issue.
4. My Kodak 5300 is now printing like it was new again!

Hi there... in order for you to determine is there something wrong with the printer is to print a demo sheet on a plain us letter paper and see how the demo sheet looks like. If the quality is terrible try to do a deep clean but like what you said it works fine with 4x6 and regular paper. What type of glossy paper do you have??? if it works with other paper do you think that there is nothing wrong with the paper you are using???

SOURCE: printer does not make black
Remove the black and color ink cartridges.
Right above where the black ink cartridge was, in the top left hand corner of the printhead, push up towards the ceiling and you should be able to push a button that releases the printhead.
Place the printhead right back into the printer and push straight back on the back wall.
You should hear a loud snap.
Replace the ink cartridges which should snap as well.
Close the printer.
After about a minute or so the printer will ask you to do a calibration.
Insert a paper and press start.
Scan the calibration sheet.
After that, in the menu, do a printhead clean.
Do one basic and one deep.
Print a demo sheet to see if anything has changed.
If the picture looks better, continue to do cleans.
In the event that it does not, the printhead will need to be replaced and since the printer is still under warranty, Kodak specialists will try to overnight you a printhead.
The whole process is short and free.
The number for Kodak AiO Support is 1 800 421 6699.

SOURCE: Kodak 5300 printer problem
I would suggest the following :
1) Remove the Kodak printer and all its software.
2) Disconnect the USB cable from the computer.
3) Reinstall the entire software applications for the printer just as if you were installing it for the first time.
4) When asked to connect the printer .. Use a different USB port .. even if you have to switch something out .. but do this step irregardless.
Now what I want to know is ..
1) Can you print from the computer?
2) Black still "gone" ?
Let me know
