Kodak 5300 aio printer won't print black

On my 5300 kodak when I try to print on glossy paper the black ink won't print. This only happens with the 81/2x11 glossy. The 4x6 glossy prints fine, as does the 81/2x11 regular paper. Even the windows test page is ok. Ive deep cleaned the print heads and fooled around withe the print quality setting but the problem persists. Ive tired both kodak and 2 other brands of glossy paper. Any ideas ? I'm out of them (ideas, that is ).

I was printing perfectly find. First on glossy photo paper, then had to go to matte photo paper. Suddently it stopped printing. Won't pass through to complete job. Can print perfectly on regular paper. This is my husband's printer and I was hoping to fix before he discovers it.

On my kodak 5300 printer, it won't print black on regular white paper. It will print on kodak ultra photo paper. I've deep cleaned the print head twice and taken the print cartridge out several s. This is the second printer of this type I have had trouble with.

printer will not print black ink. changed cartridge no difference

  • Anonymous May 18, 2008

Black does not print on plain paper. Already cleaned, changed ink, wasted time on this problem and quite frankly got rid of the last printer for the same reason. What gives. Is there a quick fix? or do you want it back?

My printer won't print right with the black cartridge. It prints part but fades out. Changed cartridge but it still does the same thing. Did a clean head but still have the same problem.

my 5300 printer does not print black text on
plain paper. I can get it to print black text on Kodak photo paper. I pulled
the ink head, cleaned everything including the head wipers. It prints full
color photos perfectly. I created an image in Photoshop with a nice grayscale
and it prints as expected from this class of printer. It just won't print black
text. It copies and prints in color just fine. It copies and prints fine in
black mode on photo paper. It makes a very weak black text copy in black mode
on plain paper. I just installed the latest firmware upgrade (ver 70.xxx). I've
tried printing from Acrobat, MS Word, Excel, InDesign, etc. Same problem.

Mine prints photo's fine but won't print black on regular paper! What's up?

  • simh Oct 20, 2008

This is really annoying the black won't print on plain paper, just like everyone else, it prints fine on glossy paper. This therefore cannot be a problem with the printhead but some corruption of the paper detection, telling the printer not to print black when it detects plain paper. Even though i know it can print black (glossy paper) I've done all the usual head clean, calibration, new firmware. Why do Kodak simply supply a new printhead when the damned thing works perfectly on glossy papar??? Can this not be fixed without a new printhead. It is so annoying. I nearly threw the printer out the window.

  • Abaum Oct 22, 2008

The printer did fine for a while. Suddenly it stoppped printing black text on plain paper. The calibration page prints fine. I have put in new black cartidges but it doesn't help. I have cleaned the printhead per the instructions, but the problem is not fixxed.

  • Anonymous Nov 22, 2008

Same thing here.....one day it works....later that day - no more black ink. Full cartridge and all - cannot print black on any type of paper! Gotta love this thing! :(

  • ngrias91 Jan 23, 2009

I cant print black from any program but when I print from the printer itself it will print in black. The Kodak website says I need a printhead but if that was the case it wouldn't print black at all. Is it a virus?

  • Anonymous Feb 19, 2009

From the first time I got this damn thing I havent been able to print black it ******* sucks

  • Anonymous Mar 25, 2009

Have Kodak 5300, and it didn't print. Bought new ink and would only print in color-not the black. Contacted customer service and told it was the print head. It's only 1 year old.

  • Anonymous Apr 23, 2009

I have the 5300 also and it stopped using the black ink. We recalibrated, bought new ink, recalibrated again, tried different modes of printing -nothing has worked. I hope I don't need to buy a whole new printhead - it's a year and a half old. Way to plan those warranties Kodak!

  • Anonymous Apr 24, 2009

I have never been totally satisfied with the color when I print something or copy something. Recently after replacing cartridges the black ink does not work and the pics now look like negatives. Phoned KODAK @ 1-800-421-6699 today and new printer head is on it's way free of charge. Hope this works, other wise I"ll go back to HP.

I can't see how downloading a driver can fix my print heads.....It has 2 new cartridges and won't print.

In case they still sell this printer, I can only say DON'T buy it!! I finally threw it away. Look at my other reviews of it online.

The best thing to do is to unplug the printer and plug in a new one. Sorry to be so blunt, but that printer is junk.

It is the print head. Cleaning the heads does not do any good, either does replacing the ink. What you'll need to do is contact Kodak's customer service line and they can replace it for you free of charge. On this site everyone seems to be saying it is consistently the black that stops, however, based on what Kodak said it is possible that either the black or the color can have this same issue.

When you call in they will ask you for your service number, which is located on the bottom left corner of the machine, when you lift the lid (as if you were going to replace the ink). They didn't ask me when I bought it, how much I used it, etc.

They will set up a case for you - it takes 2-3 business days for the print head to arrive. They will provide you with an invoice number as well. Be sure to document it all just incase the head never comes, or if there are additional issues after you receive it (and/or if it doesn't solve the problem)

Well, I got a new black cartridge - it printed one decent line of text then a page of really light text. So - downloaded the latest firmware from Do-Hack (Kodak), and now can't print any black at all. Color still working. So now what?

On a side note, this 5300 AIO has been a pain from the start. I had to download all the software and spend an hour on the phone with India just to get it to print, and then it wouldn't scan, so I had to do some magic with the original disk and finally got it working. The ink may be a little cheaper, but it isn't worth the trouble! My old HP312 is still working great at 8-10 years old.

Try going to Kodak's site and download the new Firmware and run the exe Here's a link to the location.

http://www.kodak.com/global/en/service/downloads/dln_ekn033541.jhtml?pq-path=10623/10624

Even if the Firmware is the same version run the update anyway incase its corrupted.

My 5300 printer is only 15 month old and has developed a fault, it will not print in Black. The photo side 6x4 is great but on the A4 side the text is grey and the photos discoloured. I have gone through cleaning the heads both basic and deep, no joy, have recalibrated still no good, any solutions.

Thanks
Dave

Kodak 5300 will not utilize black ink cartridge SOLUTION:
I can't believe this worked but it DID:
1. I downloaded the latest firmware upgrade and installed it. This did NOT fix the issue.
2. I followed the diagnostic wizard on the Kodak web sight which told me to conduct a "Deep Cleaning" utilizing the control panel on the printer.
3. I then printed a diagnostic page and this resolved the issue.
4. My Kodak 5300 is now printing like it was new again!

Hi there... in order for you to determine is there something wrong with the printer is to print a demo sheet on a plain us letter paper and see how the demo sheet looks like. If the quality is terrible try to do a deep clean but like what you said it works fine with 4x6 and regular paper. What type of glossy paper do you have??? if it works with other paper do you think that there is nothing wrong with the paper you are using???

SOURCE: printer does not make black

Remove the black and color ink cartridges.
Right above where the black ink cartridge was, in the top left hand corner of the printhead, push up towards the ceiling and you should be able to push a button that releases the printhead.
Place the printhead right back into the printer and push straight back on the back wall.
You should hear a loud snap.
Replace the ink cartridges which should snap as well.
Close the printer.
After about a minute or so the printer will ask you to do a calibration.
Insert a paper and press start.
Scan the calibration sheet.
After that, in the menu, do a printhead clean.
Do one basic and one deep.
Print a demo sheet to see if anything has changed.
If the picture looks better, continue to do cleans.
In the event that it does not, the printhead will need to be replaced and since the printer is still under warranty, Kodak specialists will try to overnight you a printhead.
The whole process is short and free.

SOURCE: Kodak 5300 printer problem

I would suggest the following :

1) Remove the Kodak printer and all its software.
2) Disconnect the USB cable from the computer.
3) Reinstall the entire software applications for the printer just as if you were installing it for the first time.
4) When asked to connect the printer .. Use a different USB port .. even if you have to switch something out .. but do this step irregardless.

Now what I want to know is ..
1) Can you print from the computer?
2) Black still "gone" ?

Let me know

Kodak 5300 AIO Paper Jam

Hi there ok Generally when this happens, something has fallen into the printer, or a piece of paper has been jammed in there.

First step, remove the ink cartridge, and turn the printer upside down and gently shake it, see if anything comes out.

If nothing goes, or you can't hear anything rattling around, get a piece of cardstock paper (60lb or heavier) and gently push this through the printer, to see if it will help push out what might be stuck in there.

And gave the rode that the ink slides on a good clean and maybe a bit oil on cloth and wipe the rod with it.

Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.

Black and yellow ink not printing

This is what worked (so far) with my Dell1.gif AIO A940 printer1.gif that wouldn't print black ink.

It worked for awhile when I chose photo/glossy paper, but then it quit printing again (see below).

PRINT, PROPERTIES, PAPER SETUP, SPECIALTY PAPER, PHOTO/GLOSSY

I got it to print, again, by putting SEVERAL papers in the feeder (instead of just 1) - there is a sensor that is supposed to automatically detect paper type, and it might not be working right, especially with one or only a couple of sheets.
