The fan could simply be clogged and is held stil, or it needs to be lubricated, remove the fan, on the rear there will be a sticker covering a small hole, carefully peel back sticker, dont take it off, it stops dust geting in there, under that sticker will be the bearings, spray a small amount of a general lubricant or oil in there, and turn it with your hand until it is free and easy, mount it back on heatsink and it should work, failing that try a new fan

Need A processor fan motor for mo. gm5420

Hi ome, I looked up some specs and found a pdf file that has photos of the cpu fan. It looks to be a standard fan that you should be able to buy at Radio Shack. Remove the fan and take it with you to Radio Shack and they will be able to match it up. Here is the link to the pdf file on your GM5420: Alternatively if you want on buy one on line, the Core2 Duo has a LGA 775 socket type and you can find fans at the link below: Hope this helps

Got a "Thermal Event" message now computer wont staqrt

Your cpu is overheating, because of dust buildup in the fan area. You need to blow it out with compressed air ($4 at Walmart). If that doesn't help, then the cpu fan may need to be replaced. Good luck, hope this helps.

My gateway desktop keeps going into auto save mode right after booting up and wont turn back on until unless i restart it help please

Sounds like it is overheating. Disconnect all wires and the power cord. Take it outside and open it up. Clean all the dust out as instructed in this link. http://www.computerhope.com/cleaning.htm I clean mine with an air compressor but you must be careful when using this much air pressure. Do not allow the fan blades to spin or you may damage the motor. After you have cleaned it look carefully at the CPU fan and make sure it is attached to the CPU tightly. Hook it back up and see if all is well. If not post back.

Y Daughter Has a gateway laptop model ML6720 which the fan has been seemingly noisy but I just noticed I don't think it is going on .What should I do and what harm can be done

This is the CPU cooling fan.
Take it to a repair shop. Laptops cannot been worked on easily.
Without the cooling fan, the CPU will eventually die and make take the hard drive with it.

Ijust replaced the cpu fan and now the computer won't boot - it just flashes the gateway logo

make sure that the power reqs for the fan are the same as one you replaced and make sure that the new fan is the same prong (3 or 4). Also make absolutely sure you plugged the new fan power supply inti the CPU fan slot

Gateway MT6451 Does not turn on

Probably the mainboard or flaky power supply.

I'd start by replacing the power supply. Buy one you can use in a new machine, though... or "borrow" one from another machine.

I have a gateway profile 3 the cpu fan wont come on it gives warning fan absent or broken and wont to go no farther.

First make sure that the CPU fan is properly connected to the motherboard. There is a connector on the motherboard that is usually labeled CPU_FAN.

If the fan is properly connected, but isn't working, a replacement can be purchased for a reasonable price. Check with Gateway or your local computer supply shop and they will be able to help you find the right fan assembly for your CPU.

Hope this helps. Please take a moment to rate this solution. Thanks.
