Take a link out of the chain. This takes special tools.
John;
if you have used all the adjustment I recommend you replace the chain. Take it with you to a local saw shop (I prefer Stihl chain to all others) for use as a replacement pattern. Ask the technician making your replacement whether he thinks it a good idea to remove a link from your existing chain. He is the only one with expertise, in a position to provide an informed answer, and he has the necessary tools to accomplish it. If the chain breaks at speed it can be ugly.
If you take your saw with you the technician (mid day, mid week) will likely remove the old and install the new chains as part of the service. Ask to watch. There is a procedure in your OM. HTH

You need to either replace the chain or get a "half link" to shorten the chain. there usually is an idler that all you should have to to do is LOOSEN it, puch it toward the chain and re-tighten. Sometimes it is a geared tooth other times it appears to be a block. Either way is the same loosen the bolt push it toward the chain and retighten it. Make sure there is at least 1/4 inch deflection in the chain on the longest run.
That is chain tightening 101. It is that easy.
Thanks for using FixYa!
