Try going to"Computer Management" then "Disk management" and see if its listed there. If it is, you just might need to assign it a drive letter. Right clicking will give you the option to assign a drive letter. Hope this helps.

When my Maxtor basic External Hard Drive is conected my PC won't boot up.

Verify in the BIOS setup (usually accessible by pressing F2, F12, or Del at boot), "Boot Device" submenu, that the system isn't programmed to also boot from an external device. If it is, it will try to boot off the Maxtor, but won't be able to since there's no OS there.
The system should be configured to start off the internal hard disk, and optionally the CD-ROM. Other options (ROM BIOS, PXE, USB, etc.) are usually best left deactivated or at lowest priority.

option 01. try the unit on another windows pc. if its the same. i am afraid you might have an issue with the device.

option 2 . you could remover the **** from the enclosure & fix it directly to the pc so that you can retrive the data. however this will have an impact on your warranty

External hard drive not recognised on my ps3??

Ok. Well this is easy! your hard drive is formatted in NTFS, ps3 wont recognize that. it needs to be fat32 find an XP machine not a vista machine.

download Swiss Army Knife and format the drive in fat32. you will loose ALL information in your external. you will need to back up anything you want to save and put it back after the format.

good luck!

My pc dose not come up my maxtor basics external desktop hard drive

What OS are you using? Windows 98SE does not always recognize exterrnal hard drives. Try the external HD on a computer running Windows XP and see if that works. If it works on WinXP and not Win98SE or possibly WinME the External HD is good.

Maxtor 3200

I had a similar problem with my pc( OS=XP SP2) with the same external drive model. I was able to solve it by downloading and installing WindowsXP-KB908673-x86-ENU Hotfix Package from Microsoft Corporation. I hope it works for you.

Maxtor external hard drive is not accessable

- Do you hear any beep sound when you plug in the USB drive into the laptop? - You can also try a different USB cable - Try connecting the hard drive to a different computer and see if it works All those steps will help you determine where the issue is. Please revert back with any other observations. Good Luck
