Thanks, i think it is the Ballast because even with no lamp hooked to it. It will still buzz so i am shipping it out to be fixed i could not find the ceramic cap or diode anywhere. TSM www.tristatemodule.com they are great they rebuild my color wheel when no one had one in stock .

This is normal . It is telling me it is trying to turn on the lamp. But are you having a problem with the set now or is this something you've just noticed. If your set is not working check the the lamp or make sure it is seated correctly.

Is your lamp OK ? If it is your ballast may be bad . But it is only a guess . When you turn it on do you hear that whisp type sound like the color wheel is spining ? No i really didn't think you didn't put it back together correctly as you said it worked great for a week . I mean't the lamp sometimes is not properly seated in its housing correctly . Now if you don't hear that whisp sound as if the wheel is not spinning then you might to check the wheel again. I know this is not fun to work on let alone getting into the light engine assembly . Let me know

if you are talking about the light engine, your best bet is to have a tech do it.  if you are really talking about the color wheel, in my experience they are replaced not repaired ..

Want to know if color wheel can be repaired?

Unfortunately, you can't replace just the bearing. You would have to replace the complete color wheel. Here's a link for a major parts distributor so you can get an idea on priceing:

How to replace the color wheel on a RCA DLP

RCA DLP color wheel replacment is most efficiently done from the behind the screen, not the back panels where the guts of the DLP are located.

From there you do not need to remove anything but the color wheel and disconnect the two wires.

Loud buzzing sound

Hello Jack,

That buzzing might be two things. It could be the color wheel or the ballast for the bulb. To check this you will have to move the projection section of the TV out of the case and listen for the sound in the area of the color wheel and the ballast. Try removing the color wheel power to see if the buzzing stops if it does then it's the color wheel is not and the ballast is buzzing then It's the ballast, and it will need replacing or if you know electronics you could try fixing the old ballast (I would suggest getting a new ballast).

Better still if you are uncomfortable working on the set you could get a qualified TV repair person to repair your TV .

I hope this helps,
Thank you,
