First you must lift the dadf all way up, because (from front looking) on left side under /by dadf hinge is white flap. This flap registers the lifting and pulling down of dadf.Probably is only that.
...but check if its broken or stuck,...

Or you have broken sensor or some part in sensors, or piece of paper, or similar in dadf

I have canon Ir2270 machine. In this Computer print is ok but when copy to copy then large vertical white line is coming in the side.please help.

Him are you using the upper feeder or platen glass? . If copies are ok in platen glass . There is dirty in the feeder reading glass
tip

Black lines across copy when using Document Feeder.

Many people ask this same question over and over again. "I get black thin line (s) when using document feeder. If my original is on the platen glass copy is OK."

Well, in most copiers, be it Xerox or Canon or Sharp there is same principle in use. When document is moving it is exposured (copied) by a steady non-moving exposure lamp. If there is any dirt or even a dust particle on the narrow platen glass it will print out as a line.

Most people don't understand this principle and they say "I 've cleaned the platen glass".OK, they have cleaned the BIG glass, but the glass is the narrow one next to the big one. Very often there is glue or white correction lacquer on the platen which of course adheres more dirt.

You may use even the strongest solvents to get dirt off the glass. Remember, it is made of glass and won't get hurt even if you use thinner or nail polish remover.

This tip applies also on fax machines. The receiving end may call back and say "your fax has a lot of lines across the copy".

A vertical black line appear on each paper when the document feeder is used to make copies; such vertical line does not appear on papers when copying on the glass surface. How do I resolve this...?

Hello,
when you open the copier platen cover, left of the copy glass, there is small narrow glass, which is used when you make copies from ADF. Over that glass is plastic protective sheet. Remove it and clean, also clean the glass. Use glass detergent and after cleaning dry it!

Even the smallest dirt can cause lines!

Hope that helps!

Black line in paper

On what operation are you receiving the black line in your paper?

This problem usually appears when you try to scan or copy using your ADF (automatic document feeder).
To remove this black line in your paper, clean the ADF platen glass in your printer and do as well in the flatbed scanner glass. This ADF platen glass can be found right below where the documents in the ADF goes through. Its a glass about 1 inch in with and beside the flatbed scanner glass (the one where your documents is lay down for copying and scanning. Dried ink or paper residue sticked in the glass can cause this line in the paper. Clean it with a a clothe and spray some windex on it.

Good luck!

Why do I have a line down the middle of my scan using the feeder not when I scan on the glass?

Hi,

Check the feeder slot for any debris (paper, correction fluid etc.)
Also open the lid so check the platen glass. to the far left should be a narrow strip of glass seperate from the main plate. make sure there are no marks on this, usually correction fluid or ink from ballpens likes to get smeared on here when using the feeder causing a perma black object to be scanned for copying / scanning. hence the mark on the copy / scan.

Wipe carefully with a warm, damp cloth and some window cleaning detergent to remove any marks from there.

When trying to make copies from the Cannon Imagerunner 3230 machine, we keep getting a black line on top of the copies. I tried cleaning the inside but it still appears. What could that be?

Drum Unit, Make sure the scan glass and platen glass is clean. Run copies from glass and document feeder to see if line appears on one or both. Both Drum unit or fusing Film. Will need a copier tech to remove parts for inspection.

Dark, vertical stripe on copy on Sharp AR-M160

Have you cleaned the small, narrow glass window leftmost of the platen? It is directly above the scanning bar's "home" position, and that's where the document is scanned, while it's fed by the feeder, passing over the bar (the paper moves, as oposed to platen scanning, when the bar is moving and document remains still).

HP OfficeJet J5780 Vertical Black Line Prints when copying or scaning only. Cleaned rollers and changed black ink cartrigde. Still problem.

Have you tried cleaning the document feeders Scan Glass? (small glass under doc feeder ~ 1" by 9") Most times there is dirt spot on this glass, causing a shadow on scans and copies.
Try copying from the large glass by lifting doc feeder / platen cover and manually placing original. If no line copying or scanning manually from large glass, then small scan glass is deffenitely the culprit. Hope this helps.

Every Fax we send has stripes going down it making it hard for the receiver to read our faxes. It doesn't happen when we receive fax, print or make copies.

You say it makes copies without the stripes. Do you use the automatic document feeder (ADF) when you make copies, or open the top and lay the paper on the platen? If you get stripes when using the ADF, the ADF scanner area needs to be cleaned. It's the smaller glass area to the left of the main platen glass. Use a damp cloth and remove any dirt or debris.

Lines on copies

The lines are caused by some debris that is on the platen (the glass where you normally place the copies). The usual culprit is white-out smudges from a copy that wasn't completely dried yet. When you make copies using the feeder, the roller passes the paper being copied over a little section of the platen (if you pull up the feeder "lid", it'll be on the right-hand side of the big glass... it might even be marked with 2 green arrow stickers, but if not, it's the part of the glass directly under the roller of the feeder). You can just take an alcohol wipe or soak a cotton ball with alcohol or windex and wipe down that strip of glass under the roller.
