My Dell XPS 210 makes a loud whining noise when powered up and lasts for minutes until turned off. Can you identify what the issue is and how to fix?

It sounds like a fan problem, it could be one on the case, the motherboard or in the powersupply. fans are generally inexpensive, but if it is the power supply it will be a couple more bucks to fix. There could even just be a buildup of dust on them. Compressed air can usually clean them out. HDD can also cause noises in some cases but hopefully thats not your problem.

Hi

From what you are describing the power outage has caused the motherboard and/or the CPU to short out

Answering the question of where can you get anohter on, I belive you will need to book the PC into a PC repair shop to assess the damage and I am sure they will be happy to talk you throguh the options you will have

If this has been useful please leave positive feedback/vote/testimonial as this will help me greatly - Thank You again

Hello I have a Dell Dimension 3100 desktop. After

Bad Fan... either the CPU Fan or the Power Supply Fan or the Case Fan. If the PC is older than 4 years it is probably the Power Supply.

Fan makes a lound noise and power button is orange

It sounds as if your power supply is cooked because the cooling fan has been running slow

Only way you can check is to take a panel off and hook a voltmeter into the 12v & 5V supplies on the Hard Drive and the Floppy Drive.

Computer shut on and off repeats over and over again

When you say "funny noise", you could have a hard drive failing. On Dells, if you push F12 while booting, you should get a boot menu. Diagnostics should be in that menu, it's a Dell feature. Anyway go in there and run some tests and see if it reveals anything. If the tests pass cleanly, you may just have a Windows problem.

Computer shut on and off repeats over and over again

hi,
take out the power cable from the system press and hold the power button for 15 seconds and then put in the power cable and try to start, if does the same behaviour again you should contact dell technical support because it might require multiple steps of troubleshooting
