Well are 2 reasons for this behaviour of your notebook...first it can be an issue with the graphics card installed on the motheboard or its an issue with the Monitor cable which is connected between the motherboard and the LCD.

Following are the steps that you can try to resolve the problem:

At first we need to check whether its a hardware problem or not.

1.Restart the computer and tap on the F10 key for a while which would take us to the BIOS SET UP UTILITY...

2.Now we need to wait for sometime in this screen so that we can check the status of the screen whether the screen goes dim or it remains normal..

3.If the screen remains normal for around 10 minutes then its not a problem with the cable,

4.Now we need to get back to the windows screen and try installing the graphics driver for the notebook.

Let me provide you a couple of drivers for the notebook.

I am providing you the drivers assuming Windows Vista installed on the system

if you have an ATI card installed, the install the below mentioned driver:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&swItem=ob-60201-1&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN

if you have an NVIDIA card install the below mentioned driver:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&swItem=vc-77961-1&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN

or you can install the drivers directly from the manufacturers website..

Hope this works.

Regards
KEN

That means your backlight is going out. The fact that it's happening intermittently like that suggests that you have a faulty screen inverter (a small circuit behind the screen that converts DC power to AC, in order to light the florescent backlight).
I suggest replacing it. Here are some on abay for pretty cheap:

Good question,

you can pick up Faulty hp laptop dv6000 for around 90 Euros on Ebay if you look around you might get Cheaper.

Just depends if your willing to do a little work or just wanna buy a new Laptop you can pick up a Handy Laptop now if you look around for 300 and up.

But a screen is not that Hard tyo change if you can do it or have a friend i suggest if its important to you Buy a Faulty laptop but see if any one locally can change it for you if not Buy a new one but look locally as you can use yours till it gets fixed should only take 1 hour to change :)

Pavilion dv6000t screen won't come on.

I had this exact problem with a customers computer andi found out that HP put faulty motherboards in the DV6000, DV9000, Compaq V6000 Series Computers. Thankfully HP fixing all computers for free and extending the warranty even if the warranty has expired they will ship you a box and you ship it off and they fix it at no cost. the turn around period is about 7 days.

Here is a link to an article that talks about it

Cant turn my built in webcam on??

Hi,

This is known Webcam issue in DV6000 notebooks. To resolve or narrow down the issue, we have to check few things.

First open Device Manager.

Please follow these steps to open Device Manager:

1. Right Click on 'My Computer' icon on Desktop and choose Properties.
2. The System properties Window opens.
3. Click Hardware tab and then click the Device Manager button.

Expand + Imagining Devices and check if the HP Webcam is listed under it.

If Webcam is not listed there, then you have to contact HP to get the BIOS update.

If it is listed there, right click on it and select Disable. Again right click on it and select Enable.

Now open any applications like Quickplay and check if Webcam is working or not.

Please reply me if that won't resolve the issue, I can provide more work arounds
