Netgear WGR614 I have recently bought a Netgear WGR614 for my laptop with the intention of making it wireless. Unfortunately it keeps asking for an internet connection, when I bought this item to connect to the internet, how can I have a connection already there. I can't therefore download the software?

Didn't you have the CD?? Just put the CD in your computer, then follow the instruction. Of course you should put the internet (DSL cable), and do the correct installation.

Let me know how did you do and how it keeps asking the internet connection.

First thing I did with my Netgear is this.
Plug in the dsl/cable modem to the PC directly. Then install the driver on the cd. If you are one of the unlucky types like I was, the router didn't come with a cd. Try going to Netgers page see if they have a driver. Most are basically auto install. Try this before you check the netgear site though. Plug in the cable/dsl modem to the router and the pc to the router. Resstart everything. This includes the modem, router and pc. When it pops back up, try seeing if that works. if not, try opening up Internet explorer. Type this in to the url. 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.0
That should bring up the netgear setup page for the router. If it ask for a password, the password on mine was
username - admin
password - password
It has an auto configure tab so click on that and that should automatically take care of everything for you. Let me know what happens!

you can log into the netgear.

the ip address and the password are usuall underneath it.

connect it to yout laptop or pc and login using the details. once logged in, you will be prompted to insert new services provider details, or if its a DHCP connection and you have your router plugged into the wireless netgear, it will pickup the settings, all you will need to do is define SSID (wireless name) and password.

any probs let me know

How to connect wireless router, Netgear WGR614, to my computer?

4 steps to set up your home wireless network
1.
Choose your wireless equipment
The first step is to make sure that you have the equipment you need. As you're looking for products in stores or on the Internet, you might notice that you can choose equipment that supports three different wireless networking technologies: 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g. We recommend 802.11g, because it offers excellent performance and is compatible with almost everything.
Shopping list
• Broadband Internet connection
• Wireless router
• A computer with built-in wireless networking support or a wireless network adapter

A wireless router
The router converts the signals coming across your Internet connection into a wireless broadcast, sort of like a cordless phone base station. Be sure to get a wireless router, and not a wireless access point.
A wireless network adapter
Network adapters wirelessly connect your computer to your wireless router. If you have a newer computer you may already have wireless capabilities built in. If this is the case, then you will not need a wireless network adapter. If you need to purchase an adapter for a desktop computer, buy a USB wireless network adapter. If you have a laptop, buy a PC card-based network adapter. Make sure that you have one adapter for every computer on your network.
Note: To make setup easy, choose a network adapter made by the same vendor that made your wireless router. For example, if you find a good price on a Linksys router, choose a Linksys network adapter to go with it. To make shopping even easier, buy a bundle, such as those available from D-Link, Netgear, Linksys, Microsoft, and Buffalo. If you have a desktop computer, make sure that you have an available USB port to plug the wireless network adapter into. If you don't have any open USB ports, buy a hub to add additional ports.
2.
Connect your wireless router
Since you'll be temporarily disconnected from the Internet, print these instructions before you go any further.
First, locate your cable modem or DSL modem and unplug it to turn it off.
Next, connect your wireless router to your modem. Your modem should stay connected directly to the Internet. Later, after you've hooked everything up, your computer will wirelessly connect to your router, and the router will send communications through your modem to the Internet.

Trying to password protect my wireless internet with Netgear router and it is now telling me I have limited access when I try to connect to the internet with my laptop

Hi,
If you have password protected your router, and after the same its giving you a limited access, you need to delete the existing wireless connection and create a new one. When you are configuring the new connection it would ask you the password that you have given , the box where you need to put it in is called the Network key box. You can call netgear support and they can walk you through it aswelll.

Thanks

I can not access internet on my computer whilst i am using my NETGEAR Wireless-G Router WGR614 v9 but it works on my psp

Are you connecting wired or wirelessly to the router?
If wired make sure the cables are properly connected and lights are lit on the router,
If wirelesly, make sure to enter the correct wireless settings on your laptop like ssid, channel and wireless security.

I just bought a laptop and we recently got a DSL connection, I'm not sure how to connect my laptop wirelessly ( Do I need anything else?).

If you would like to connect wirelessly to your DSL connection you will need a wireless router if your modem is not a combination modem/wireless router (You can ask your ISP regarding this). You may go to
www.linksys.com and www.netgear.com so that you may look at routers that will suit your needs.
