Glass The middle layer of glass "exploded" during a routine broiling of chicken droping lots of little square pieces of glass into the lower oven and on the floor. Is this normal?

I used the self clean feature on my icon double wall oven for the first time - near the end of the clean cycle, the piece of glass between the inner and outer glass exploded, I had glass all over my kitchen and in my warming draw.

I bought an Electrolux Icon Double Wall Oven and when I put it on the self-clean mode, the inner glass exploded and there was glass all over the place. I was scared to have this oven in the house because if the glass can explode like that, it can catch the house on fire! Electrolux didn't want to fix it, but when I took it to "the powers that be", they sent out a tech to replace the glass. Six months later, I tried it again and the same thing happened to the same oven. I again went to Electrolux complaining about the glass and once again they came but this time, they fixed the element that was defective. Why didn't they do that in the first place? My suggestion to anyone that has a complaint about this oven is to call customer service and pitch a fit and ask to speak to management and they should fix or replace it for your for free since it is a manufacturing defect. Two years after this incident, we are still having problems with this oven. It is now displaying an error code and the oven turned itself off. This will sure be the last time that we buy Electrolux. I guess these ovens were not meant for use... It was meant for show (not for cooking). For the price of this oven, we could have bought a professional oven that will hold up!
Check the internet for any other reviews about this oven.

We have an Electrolux-Icon 2 door wall oven. The glass shutter when I used autoclean. Electrolux change the door. It took months to get them to fix it. Door was shipped from Canada (we are in US) door arrived broken (damaged on transit via UPS), they sent another one.
Months later I use auto-clean again (the lowest heat setting) and the other door shutter again. In the first case was the inner glass, last one is the middle glass. We are out of warranty now. Obviously there are problems with their glasses. Disappointing that such an expensive supposedly high quality item has these problems.

Range/Stove/ Oven Door Glass Replacement

I see many questions come up at about oven door glass that has broken and how to replace the glass. For many ovens it is a relatively simple task. It will take about an hour for most people, depending on the skill level, and the type of door.

To do this job you should have handy a screwdriver, usually a Philips head medium sized, a plastic tarp, especially if your glass in the door is already broken, and of course the new glass. It is also a good idea to measure the new piece of glass to make sure that it is close in size before taking the door apart.

For your safety, make sure that the power is turned off to the oven before starting this job also. The open the oven door and remove the screws on the inside face of the door. If the door can be remove easily you can remove it, but it is not necessary to do that. Make sure that you place the pieces of the door as they come off and the screws in a place to keep them organized for when you put everything back together.

For most ovens you will find the oven glass held in by tabs, similar to a picture frame. Pull the tabs back to release the glass. Carefully remove the old glass from the frame. If it is broken, be very careful not to cut yourself. Also contain the glass on the trap to make cleanup easier. For many newer ovens, you will have three layers of glass. Do the same process for each layer.

When the old glass is removed, then simply replace each layer of glass and press the tabs back in place for each one. Then replace the brackets or inside pieces of the door, and secure with the screws.

This is how easy it is to replace the glass for many of the ovens.

Another word about broken glass in ovens…..
Many of the people that have broken glass state that it broke after running the self-clean feature of their oven. For many of you this warning will be too late…but for those of you that see this before, be warned!

Outside door glass has slid down

Sounds like the door gasket/seal has pulled away from the rest of the door frame and layers. You might be able to take the door off of the hinges, and cabinet, and take apart the layers to readjust.

How do I remove door? Also how do I replace inner glass on door?

Usually to remove the door you must first put it in the broil position and then it will pull off. After that, replacing the inner glass will involve disassembling the entire door. Every one is a little different, but you should be able to figure out which screws to take out to get it apart once you get the door off the unit itself. The glass will be sandwiched in by the other pieces, so be sure you remember where everything goes! Good luck.

This is not uncommon, especially at the age of your range. So long as the inner glass panel is intact, you can safely use the range.

KitchenAid Built-in microwave middle glass shattered

not a problem, first you can refer to your user manual as to how to remove door, (pg 21) heres a link if you misplaced it.

then Ill include this link as well, which is apart breakdown for your GENERAL oven, and i do this so you can see the different panes of glass( ther are 4 of them inthe oven door, each one different so ordering hte right one will be half the battle.
the numbers after you model example, kemc308kss** (01,02,03,04) these last 2 digits will also determine which glass you actually have
Once the door is off and you have the correct glass, changing the glass is nothing more then reomving screws from the door frame, layer by layer until you get to the broken pane, not real difficult at all
