How to transfer your old files to Window 7

Before beginning i recommend performing a full backup so that if anything goes wrong you can roll the system back to working state.

1. You might have a large number of files on your computer that you've either downloaded. The chances are you've also not accessed many of these files in years.
Take time to make an assessment of which files you actively use. In many cases, you'll find that you can free up large amounts of disk space by simply archiving old files. Do this now to clear space and you'll save them later on.

2. Download Microsoft windows easy transfer from http://tinyurl.com/windowsET. Select the correct version depending on whether your old windows installation is XP or Vista, and 32-bit or 64-bit. If your not sure with vista, click start ,type system and click system in the programs list. In XP, click start then Run.Type system.cpl and press Enter. In each case it will tell you if your current version is 32-or 64-bit.

Once downloaded , double click on the easy transfer file and follow the installation wizard.

3. Run windows Easy Transfer from the start menu. The initial screen tells you what it can do. Click Next to continue. The next screen asks which transfer method you want to use. If you're transferring files using and external device, click the bottom option. Click Next again, and you'll be asked which computer you're using, click it.Windows Easy Transfer now builds a list of your files and settings. This process may take several minutes.

4. Easy File Transfer will identify the data it plans to transfer for each user account, and also from shared locations. Review files using the Customise buttons. This displays a sub-window,allowing you to select what you want transferred. If you need to remove files from the list, click advanced.
You can then deselect files by un-ticking the check boxes.

Click next, enter password if required, then click next again to select a transfer destination. The program creates an archive and tells you where it's stored. You can now exit the wizard.

5. Install Window 7 using the disc supplied. When complete, insert your USB drive and open it to display its files. These are stored as a self-extracting archive, so there's no need to install easy files transfer on windows 7.
Double-click the files from old computer. After a few minutes you'll be presented Whit a similar window to the one you saw earlier when you created the archive, but this time you're choosing files to load to a new computer. You can click Customise to omit files, as before.

6. Click Transfer to start loading the files on to the new computer. To prevent file corruptions or access conflicts, Windows 7 deliberately hides the menu bar to prevent you from using the PC until the transfer is complete.

Finally, click on the option to see the files that were transferred. Clicking the Program report tab also lists any third-party applications, such as adobe reader, that windows 7 thinks you'll need to install to access your files.

We are done now wish you luck' and please leave comment and feedback.
thanks

Migrating XP to Windows 7 (Using your Network)

If you are thinking of buying a new PC and trying to replace an old XP system to a new Windows 7, you might want to transfer your old favorite files to your new computer. Either transferring through a Easy Transfer cable, Network, or via USB

This procedures assumes that your old XP is still working and connected to your home or office network. and your new Win 7 is also connected as well to your networkBoth of your system and computer must be connected to the same network, either in the office or home, because it is easier to transfer files in this way, effectively and efficiently, this is practical than using USB flash drive or any external disk, though the process is similar.

Ensure that you have the Win7 InstallationDVD, or the Easy Transfer Software fromMicrosoft website, ready to be installed on your XP system. but be aware this is for 64 bit version system only, please visit Microsoft website search and download Windows easy Transfer and select "x86" in the file name for 32 bit or 64 bit, install this the same way you've done with ordinary software. In your Win 7 however, this software is automatically installed so do not bother yourself.

In this instance you will be asked if whether you want to transfer your whole data from all user accounts or to just specific user only, in this process you can also select specific files to transfer, but in order to transfer all accounts, both of your XP and WIN 7 must be logged as an Administrator.

So this procedure is Migrating through NETWORK, the other two procedure is Easy Cable Transfer and USB, external Hard disk.

1- Prepare both systems and ensure both are connected to the network and working, Start the XP computer and log in as an Admin
2- IN XP , Open up the and start the Windows Easy Transfer DVD, and look or browse for SupportMigwiz. if you have downloaded this simply select Start> All Program> Windows Easy Transfer for Win 7, it will load automatically. Simply read the screen for additional info and click Next
3- A new screen pops out and please select a Network as an option to transfer
4- Click This is my OLD COMPUTER, Still in XP Windows Easy Transfer will then generate a password for the transferring process, because in order to transfer files through the network you will be required to enter a password (record the KEY)

caae297.jpg

After you enter the key, at this time Windows Easy Transfer makes the connection and scans the Windows XP system's contents and components. Once this is over, you can practically choose which data you want to transfer, or you want to import, just like customizing the items you wish to transfer. After you have decided which is which, click Transfer, then a progress bar will appears the process occurs.

The final screen will then show up indicating the process is complete. Confirm to see if the file you have chosen was actually transferred, then close all window, including the Easy Transfer Windows.

Restart your computer, please. Congratulations!

Copy the files you want from the old PC to some kind of removable media, i.e. CD, flash drive, etc. and copy them to the new one from the media you have chosen.

I am using pc to pc file transfer for dummies I know how to hook it to both computers but I have no idea how to drag files I have windows vista

Windows Easy Transfer is installed with Vista and can be found under Accessories - System Tools or by searching for "easy" (with out quotes).

You can transfer files and settings using a network share, or transfer files and settings using removable media such as CD/DVD, or an external hard drive.
Windows Easy Transfer does not migrate installed applications (see Windows Easy Companion below)
Using Windows Easy Transfer, you can migrate most files and program settings. Below is a table describing the types of data and settings that can be moved.

Data Type Specifics Files and Folders Any files found in My Documents, My Pictures, and Shared Documents folder will be selected to be moved automatically. You can also add other documents that are in other locations. E-mail messages and Settings E-mail messages, contacts, account settings, and address books from Outlook Express, Outlook, Windows Mail, and other programs. Program Settings Programs that are compatible with Vista will have their settings transferred to the new Computer. In order for this to work the program must already be installed on the Computer running Vista. User Settings Desktop settings, color settings, screen savers, fonts, Windows options, printers, etc. Internet Settings Favorites, cookies, and Internet Explorer settings. Pictures, Video, and Music Music files, playlists, and album. Pictures (gif, jpg, bmp files) and personal videos.

Please don't forgert to rate this.....

If you have your music and pictures on one hard drive, and transfer it to the external hard drive connected by usb:

1) Connect external hard drive

2) Select the files you want to move.

3) Right click on one of them, and choose cut.

4) Go into the external drive, and choose paste. (They will start to move over.

5) To see pictures, you will right click in the picture folder and choose view. Select large icons. That should work. Also you could choose view from the top, and select pictures.
