Thankyou msquared!!! We'd been struggling with this problem for a while, and were seriously considering replacing the entire system rather than repairing it based on several other online cost analyses.Your solution worked - looking forward to a good cuppa coffee this morning. Thanks again for the $$$ saved.

OK. Here's the deal. I struggled with this CVA 4070 (F 73) problem also recently, and even posted a questions in the cyber world about it. I jiggled, re-cleaned the machine, re-read the Miele manual, and scoured the internet for schematic drawings of this brewing unit's insides. No luck. Finally after finding out I'd have to pay $199 just for a service clown to walk in my front door, I said NYET!!!  I must solve by myself. If I can take apart & fix my Dyson, etc, etc, I WILL DO THIS TOO!!  (MUST HAVE COFFEE>>>)
Pull out the brewer, turn it a quarter-turn to your right, and look at the spot where that small black plastic piece -- shaped like a block "M" or block "W" -- should be situated. Pull it out, if it isn't out already. Don't worry about yanking it out or harming these parts, said the Miele troubleshooter guy in New Jersey on the phone. They're "made from the same plastic used in football helmets."  Okey-dokey.
This approx. 1.5" wide, blocky plastic piece is part of the "slide" that takes the brewed coffee grounds into the waste container. When positioned correctly, it looks like a block "W,"  with the "wings" ointing up, and slides in just under a brown 1.5" flat piece. A small, down-facing tab on the brown piece clicks into the "W" piece and holds it in place. The "W" should feel fairly solid, although it is not rigidly in place, as the entire mechanism is a movable system to deposit the grounds in the waste receptacle.
Put everything back inside your CVA 4070 "love" machine, hit "on," and wait for it to go through its warm-up.  No F73 message?  Yeah!  Mission Accomplished. You, like I, have fixed your Miele, saved your family relationships, and saved yourself a bundle from unnecessary service calls.

I Just checked and this piece was in the correct W position. I still get the fault 73 and can't use my machine. This machine has been a constant problem. The repair guy was at my house ten times while the unit was under warranty. The last time he came he didn't bother to tell me it was out of warranty until he presented a bill for $150. The machine worked for a day after he left and then broke again. He must have said five times during his visits that he would put in for a new brew unit under warranty but it never happened and now they don't know what I'm talking about. Avoid this machine it has wasted countless hours of my time.

Tried what mcsquared7 suggested and it works. Saved the unit the fate of replacement, and us $$$. Thank you mcsquared7!!

Turn the machine off from the backside (or unplug it) for a few minutes, then turn back on from the backside (or plug into wall outlet), then turn power on from the top.

Miele models CVA4070 and CVA4075 have a small, removable pastic part in the shape of a "W" or "M" in the chute of the brew unit. If this plastic part is inserted in the shape of an "M", fault 73 is displayed. Replacing the part in the shape of a "W" fixed my fault message.

What is error code 73?

F73 is a Brew unit fault - its possible it may only need cleaning - but more times than not there is a mechanical issue with the unit running through its cycle. There are a series of switches to monitor the brew units movements so the system knows where the is, or in this case is not - the brew unit is not moving properly to the position desired

I have a Miele Coffee System CVA 4075. Kept getting fault 73 message. Long story short, the Brew unit is out of place. I somehow need to get it back into the basic position. When I turn it on now it reads...

I have a Miele CVA 4085 built-in coffee maker which had a similar problem to this and other problems where it gets locked into a state and won't let you do anything else. I my case it says Cleaning and it demands you empty the drip tray even though it is empty. In my case it was at the end of a cleaning cycle and refused to go on. Cutting power and restarting always had it return to the same state: Cleaning, empty drip tray.

I cleaned the contacts on the drip tray and at the back using the nail file, still nothing. Then I found a post on how to get into the programming menu, which on the CVA 4085 is this:
Open the door and switch off the power with the rocker switch on the top left.Wait at least 5 seconds.
Switch the rocker on then VERY QUICKLY close the door and hold the clear button for 5 seconds.
With your other finger touch the ON button then pull both fingers away at the same time.
Do 5 rapid presses of the clear button but hold your finger down on the last press and keep holding it down until the programming menu comes up.
Do not press the reset button that you see at the top of the menu (unless your German is quite good or you have access to Google Translate).
Scroll down until you find the reset cleaning button and select it. Once you have confirmed you can then exit programming mode by powering off.
It took me quite a while to get to this point, but at least I can now recognize the German word for drip tray.

Hi, i turned on my tassimo it went bang and now leaks water from the bottom.

I suspect the same thing happened to your Tassimo as happened to my friend's two previous machines! Fortunately I think I found the problem and it's easily fixable! Checkout http://www.stuartdalby.co.uk/miscellaneous/tassimo_repair/index.php

My machine has died and is showing with error code F 73. I can't find a reference to this error code anywhere. Any idea what this means?

I have had this too...
Try this:
turn off the power (inside opening front) & remove the carousel & runners then the waste container & then the capsule plate.
clean area inside where capsule plate comes from & reassemble everything, that usually clears the problem -if it is only happening once in a while.

Cleaning light will not quit blinking after cleaning

The same thing happened to our Mr. Coffee this week! I followed the instructions about running vinegar through, then rinsing several times with water. However, the light would not stop blinking. We did by-pass the light by setting the timer for delayed brewing and it worked. However, that blinking light came on again. Then, my husband tired the vinegar wash again but instead of doing it one time, he ran the same vinegar through 6 times until the light went out! Then he proceeded with the water rinse. Our Mr. Coffee is working again!
